OOC discussion thread

... and I was worried about one throw-away scene! :open_mouth:

OK, so we are going to run the two threads in parallel, is that right? Pursue El Noche Negro and also run a bit ahead with the next year's message, whatever that is?

If we are to start the hunt for Roto, what are we to believe was the fallout from the previous situation???

Some values for V in current scene:

Per + Awareness: +5
Per + 2nd Sight: +5 (+1 w/ illusory disguises)
Soak: +4 plus Arts bonuses (due to item, Doublet of Impenetrable Sisal)

Roto survives...well -a- Roto survives.

And yes, you will play the scenese in paralell. Sorry, but this was in the original pitch, and its how we ex-Amber players roll. 8)

Hi,

grin Works for me. Even in the original thread, Iohannes is still with Roto at the covenant, I think.

Anyway,

Ken

I'm thinking of making up an NPC magus who juts sits around home to stop this "nobody home" thing being an issue. Thoughts?

Never bothered me. The covenant should have a trustworthy mundane "specialist" who serves the bill, as seneschal or castelain or some such title. Maybe acting as chief merchant for the warehouses, whatever works.

(Heh, "Oooh, a specialist! His motha' should be so proud!...") :stuck_out_tongue:

No, I mean a magus, to deal with Ken's point that you are all off adventuring and there's no-one at home.

Yes, that's what I'm replying to.

I don't think we need an NPC magus, or any magus to "guard the house", tho' it would be nice. I think that we ~should~ have an NPC seneschal to run the place, and act as the mundane (read non-creepy non-Gifted) face for the populus, ~especially~ in a city.

There ~are~ people at home, to the public eye- exactly who is there all the time. If some Hermetic business shows up, an NPC is an NPC, and one mage shouldn't be answering for all of us anyway. (I mean, what NPC mage would we have - a heavy weapons platform Flambeau? A melt-the-public-mind Jerbiton?) Whatever we choose, it's 1) insufficient, B) forced, and iii) unnecessary 99% of the time.

Let a mundane handle it. In Character, I'm sure that's what we do most of the time when we're there!

Hi,

So are we deciding that all the magi will usually go travel in all the stories? I'm ok either way.

I suppose that makes things easier in many ways; otherwise, either a player is left out of a long thread or the SG will need more parallel threads. It also becomes closer to the typical adventuring party than "a magus or two plus grogs." But maybe that's needed in PbP

If we decide not to have an NPC at home, and to usually leave a magus or two at home, I'm ok with Iohannes staying at home for the Black Knight encounter. He's done nothing that could not have been done at the covenant.

But I'm also ok with whatever we do, even if we just leave a castellan, seneschal or whomever.

Preference? It's more work for Timothy, perhaps, but I sort of like the idea of parallel stories in a given season, or even staggered by just a season, involving only those magi who opt in. Sort of "Ok, if you opt into this story for the season, you do this rather than study or do lab work. Now the thread is launched and you're off, maybe with some other magus. Meanwhile, this other thing starts happening--how do the other PCs handle it, if they even choose to bother?"

But it's a mild preference. It's all good.

Anyway,

Ken

The covenant his effectively hidden, right? So all we need to worry about are:

  1. Magical beasties
  2. Hermetic business
  3. Mobs of peasants with torches.

Or variations on those.
If 1, we have the Aegis. If that's not strong enough, we have another adventure.

If 2, it should not be an immediate threat. (if so, see #1).

If 3, well, we have bigger problems, and most any forceful response would only cause more problems, given that it's a city.

Is it time to create Companions?

OOC, There's a good chance Iohannes did, during the adventure with the Black Knight. V's last post described selecting a branch for that very purpose, should it be necessary, tho' that end would not be obvious IC.

What's the status with that storyline, btw?

Actually, since we're up a river, the tide will ~might~ a huge effect on when we can leave - IF the boat is up this river. Depending on the bore, even magic might be a poor substitute for proper timing.* Or not - much depends on the specifics of location.

If it's moored elsewhere, in the mouth of the channel, then the tide is not a significant factor.

(*For any unfamiliar, an incoming tide against an outflowing river can create a number of hazardous conditions that are just plain unfriendly to boat traffic. Usually this requires that boats wishing to "cross the bar" must wait for the tide to be slacking, and so can only cross during two ~6 hour periods each day.)

Hi,

Yes; rather than calculate them or look up the tides, I just set two time windows rather than say "anytime." I like verisimilitude, up to a point!

Does T have any Faerie Lore? (I thought no character did?) If so, great, but if no one does then we have to be careful not to let OOC concepts flow into IC approaches. My own suggestions have been bordering on that as well - it's not a satisfactory situation. :stuck_out_tongue:

OCC
No faerie lore, but reasonable specualtion based on knwledge of spirits. Actually I think it is likely to be wrong but it seemed to be the sort of theory Theodora would have .
Actually ahving reread the section on summoning I really nead to improve my Lore skills real fast as at the moment there is a real good chacne random spirit summonings I do get me demons. I don't want that you can't trust them

Iohannes has FL.

In the "seek Roto" thread, it's been 60+ hours since the last input re that venture, so... who's interested?

Iohannes- it's your ship, your call on Departure Time. Once that's clear, any mages joining in should all give a quick bit about what individual preparations we take, and off we go.

In the Black Knight thread, the haitus has been as long, so I think we're waiting on SG description/update of the situation, both for those flying over, and those falling back to a defensive position.

Titius has also stated that he will follow on the ship.

Noted... (coward!) :stuck_out_tongue:

At the broken bridge...

It seems the frog-man stayed with them as they fell back to the treeline?

I had understood that we all agreed to back off first, then proceed, as it was clear that the attack would occur as promised. In the time V&I maneuver, the others should have(?) found their defensive position, no?

(The stick is now moving "as fast as a man sprints", or so.)

Yeah, well, I figured as much - knew it was overkill, and only "hoped" that the crows were somehow intelligent, maybe shapechanged beings, that could be intimidated by such.

Since this is the OOC thread, I'll post my OOC questions here:

  1. How many more birds - "lots", or a few, or...?

  2. What would be the Difficulty of a Finesse roll to split the darts up into individuals? How tough to use a "shotgun" approach, and just spray the area?

Or, more to the point - with a Finesse score of only 1, what can V do with a difficulty of, about, 6? And if he misses, do they all miss, or just the ones that were "split off"?

  1. How far off, timewise, is the knight?

Oh- and should we keep posting, forging ahead, or wait for the other group to post as well? (I'm waiting for Iohannes right now, 1 round ahead of him.)
