Opal in an enchanted item gives a nice +6 bonus to magic involving eyes. Does it involve just eyesight? Or does it include spells with a range of Eye?
I’d go Range: eye. I’d note opals are relatively rare in Europe (they are cheap in the modern day because Australia is full of them, and many of the ones you now see are thin slices coated in resin.) Also, opals are balls of sand held together with water and malice: they’re one of the few gemstones which you can destroy by leaving them to dehydrate. They're also considered unlucky in some parts of Europe, which makes the Eye magic link stronger (Evil eye).

Tricky, but I'd disallow a S&M bonus "+6 eyes" to benefit effects just because they are R:Eye, for the same reason I'd disallow a worn Mask (+2 affect wearer's sight) to affect spells that the wearer casts at R:Sight, or Boots (+5 affect walking) to enhance a T:Circle effect cast tracing the Circle by walking. Note that when a particular shape or material offers a bonus when employed in a certain way it says so explicitly (e.g. Glove: +4 affect things by touch - that's definitely R:Touch).
I would not, however, limit a S&M +6 eyes to only affect eyesight. Spells that make the target involuntarily cry, that change the colour of his eyes, that give him a large and bloated disfiguring (but functional) eye, that allow him to detach an eye while keeping it functioning, that change his eyes so that they shoot fire, or that bury him under a pile of conjured eyeballs (yuck!) can all benefit from the S&M bonus even if none of them specifically affects eyesight.
Also, if you plan to use the Opal or in fact any other gem as the "Eye" of an item that must be "gazed upon" by the Target to affect him (the equivalent of R:Eye), then as a Storyguide I'd be very happy to allow a fat S&M bonus - say +4 affect those gazing upon gem. Gems producing all sorts of mystical effects on those who gaze upon them is the stuff of legend. I'd allow the same bonus to a Mirror.
