Has anyone used red/blood rain? (First mentioned in Homer’s Iliad)
What caused blood to become an atmospheric phenomenon in your Saga?
In Jack and the Beanstalk, it seems that giants live in cloud regio. So I can imagine killing a cloud giant might produce a rain of blood.

A smilar occurrence happened in 1229:
In the year ad 1229, snow fell around St Martin's day and was turned into blood at once and was everywhere recognised as being blood.
