Here is an offer...
Do whatever you guys can get a third player to agree to
I am not all that worried. Just trying to make sense of it.
Why would a zombie girl be a good communicator? I would thing the opposite.
As for a magic might human, The Gift is a major quality, and Virtues can be Qualities. The only supernatural virtue you need be concerned with is Magic Human, a free virtue.
But as I said, whatever you do, it clears if a third player (not me) approves it.
Quiiick!!
check, but IIRC, you don't need MM do be an orphan born, the templates there are for humans touched by magic, with suitable v/f. Like a personnal power that runs on fatigue.
so she can be orrpah, without being magical, if i'm rifhgt
Looks like you're right about Orphan Born not necessarily having Might, but they do have Greater Power, Personal Power, and Second Sight as Inherited Virtues, which puts us back in the same InVi situation.
I wasn't entirely clear. I don't understand or agree with the ruling, but I'm not likely to argue about it if it's working to my advantage. ![]()
Not a ruling. Just an idea. Maybe a bad idea.
The ruling is that you may and can only do whatever a third player (not myself) agrees with.
Here's an idea...
Mommy was a corpse and pappa was a necromancer. Pappa also dies and becomes a ghostly warder or some such. He opens her Arts and turns her over to you. or he helps you, handwaving whatever your invi gap is.
OK, so if I do Orphan Born with a low Might, things could work well. Mark and I were both right. It seems Qualities don't count directly, as he said. But they do count indirectly. The InVi lab total does count Might. So with a low enough Might as Mark suggested, this should work. I'll start with 5 Might and adjust so it will work.
Yes, going this route I'm going for spookier and not the Animal Ken stuff.
I'm glad it's going to work out, but I do have a couple more questions. Won't any Might above 1 preclude you from ever gaining exposure xp? And doesn't a very low Might mean you're one low level Might-stripping spell away from immediate death?
Yes, all exposure xp will be gone. That's the trade-off. The Might-Stripper doesn't necessarily kill; that's a commonly overlooked part of the rules. It could just leave you essentially normal. Same is true for familiars. I'll want to master a Might-stripping spell for resistance.
It's been my understanding that Might and the Gift are mutually exclusive. The Faerie "Becoming" mystery makes a Merinita lose all their Hermetic abilities in exchange for giving them Might.
Magic Might works different than Faerie Might. The Gift can be taken as a Major Quality.
It kills exposure xp, yeas. But it doesn't place you close to death. Stripped to zero might renders them mundane. Octavian did that to Metron and threw him in a wizard's prison (he still sits in the rotting dungeons of Duresca).
Keep in mind this will be a strange and unique experiment. And you still need a third player to approve it.
There is a Gifted Quality that Mark mentioned, so that's certainly not the case.
You misread that. They lose the Gift but can still do their Hermetic stuff. They only difference is they spend Might to activate their Hermetic stuff. But it explicitly says they can still do spontaneous and formulaic magic and work in the lab.
The Gifted quality doesn't necessarily mean Might is compatible with the Gift, as Magic creatures can be designed at 0 Might (there's a flaw tgat lowers the Might score while still allowing for Magic Qualities).
Though I'm not certain having a Might score of 0 is necessarily the same thing as not havibg Might at all.
Might 0 and no Might are explicitly not the same thing.
Really? Can you point me to where that's described? A friend of mine asked me about that a couple weeks ago and I didn't know. It would be nice to clarify it before the game we're playing in a couple weeks (he plays a Bonisagus and wants a Might 0 familiar to make his lab slave).
I think it's in two spots. One is RoP:M, where it goes through Acclimation and says reaching 0 doesn't end the Might, there is then a loss of Powers. Somewhere else (maybe another book) talks about Might 0 vermin. And then there is the implicit spot in the Acclimation table where it lists information about Acclimation for a Might 0 Magical being.
Might 0 vermin?!? So what you're saying is... He can play a lab rat with a familiar who's a... wait for it... lab rat.
Thanks! I know a Bonisagus you'll have made very, VERY happy.
Given this, are you willing to be the third party that approves Callen's apprentice concept? ![]()
So I tried to make this thematically around a zombie as much as a ghost. So I went with a higher Sta and lower Pre/Com than before (of course, the +1's don't mean a ton next to the -9 from Gifted and Magic Human). You'll see there are several Quality and Virtue points unused because I didn't want to be abusive. But I tried to give her a few cool tricks. Her Hermetic Flaw is pretty significant, too.

Well, that's a start. Thoughts?
I may be the only one, but I don't see a need to short yourself 3 points in virtues. You've already shorted yourself 4 points in Qualities and you'll never gain exposure xp. I also don't understand how Venus's Blessing fits with a zombie girl that everyone without Parma (or Might + appropriate virtues) is going to hate. Otherwise it's pretty solid.
Because zombie chicks are hawt? ducks
