Table Talk - Development

Hmm, ok. Thoughts begin to percolate, seeing what's there, and considering possible Virtues and Flaws (a technique I often find works for me). It seems you have no properly sneaky type, and that sounds quite fun. But why would a sneaky type be in Andorra covenant?

How about we concoct a local band of thieves and outlaws. My character, a member of the group, has managed to become persona non grata with them (flaw: Enemies). Ostensibly to "test his loyalty", but really knowing that it's probably a suicide mission, they send him to rob the covenant. Assuming the magi might plausibly be lenient if he cries for asylum, he can join up while the outlaws believe him dead... for a while.

Can we put up some kind of development chart for characters with workshops? Even if they won't be used to generate income where the skills and development of the workshop can lead to higher quality items it could be useful information. Also wondering who would be the head scribe? Adan's scribe + com are high enough for a +1 quality bonus for texts he copies (and I would like him to learn magic theory 1 some season to aid in copying magical texts), or he can add +5 to someone else's workshop total as an assistant. If we can innovate the scriptorium or find better supplies, we could get that up to a +3 quality bonus (or whatever it calculates to using someone else's scribe + com), before we start talking about raising abilities or bring in assistants (aside from the discussion of Adan acting as an assistant)
If there is any chance he could get a season reading of Corpus Hermeticum for one of his free seasons..

Advancement questions:
Arnau finished the Salt Wyrm adventure with a medium wound (-3).
According to the rules he will have to halve his Study total for Spring (the leadership class), and then he will have to roll to see if he recovers at the end of the season. Is that correct?

Thx

According to the book you roll every month to see if you recover from a medium wound, not every season. Since he is at the penalty for a month or more his study would be halved, but if he asks Fleur for help she can kiss it and make it better (Assurance of the eased recovery gives +15 bonus to recovery rolls for one month, you only need a 12 or better to improve to light wound)
Of course if there is more than a month left in Spring, you might avoid the learning penalty altogether...

can a lab be refined in the same season as an adventure?

No. Marko in the past has said lab refinement takes an entire season.

Okay.
It only hurts to ask when you ask for it to hurt.

From what I've seen of Fleur, she just might ...

Fleur does not seem like the bondage type to me. (Hiper)sexually active yes, but not that way.

Not now, but she is only 21. Who knows how she will develop later in life.

Yes it does, but an adventure might take place in a span less than the ten-day grace period. You cannot take Exposure xp from the lab in the same season you take xp from adventure, but if there is sufficient time you can still gt the lab work done.

Yup. The 10-days period is just what Arachné is using to craft background items for the covenant (or, as an exception, Roberto), usually keeping some time to herself.
Go for it! You can rush into danger, finish it, adn run back to the lab! Will you make it in time?

In particular I'm hoping I might refine my lab during one (or both) of the "at home" adventures- investigating the haunting or exploring the regio.

Just making sure this doesn't get lost in discussions of labs and Fleur's proclivities

Thief guilds sound strange. They did not exist as such. I can see him having enemies among his employers, though. He might have gotten too much intel on them while getting info for them. Maybe they tried to get him killed. And he had to go. Or maybe sending him to Andorra was the way to get rid of him, amking him try to steal from the covenant of sociopathic wizards in the mountains. Only that it did not work. Having the count of Tolouse, the king of Aragon or the bishop of Ripoll as enemies is quite something you are unlikely to get rid of easily.

Xavi

I wasn't intending it to be a thieves' guild, per se; just a local band of outlaws, probably living somewhat rough, that this chap was a part of and then offended in some grievous way.

However, the idea of him being a court spy who got to know too much is equally, if not more, cool. Whether he got out on his own accord, and headed for the only organisation he knew of powerful enough to hide him; or whether it's the suicide mission idea, I'm not sure of yet.

Sounds like a good way to combine blackmail and enemies

At present, Nicasi and Amada are the only scribes on the payroll, so implementing a hierarchy hasn't been an issue. Vocis assigns copying duties as (Master) Librarian.

To be honest, I've never more than glanced at the workshop rules in C&G, which I assume is what you're referring to. Vocis would definitely support these kind of enhancements to the scriptorium though, so I guess I need to take a closer look.

Absolutely. That's business-critical training. Maybe he could read it in spring 1235 when half the covenant is in Egypt?

Maybe not in the classic D&D-style "Thieves' Guild", but certainly bands of roving bandits, marauding raiders, and gangs of thugs did, I believe.

Depending on how bad it goes, it might be some time longer than that
