My vote is that we metagame reset the vis counter. I don't crunch numbers on this game, I had no idea we were so weak. Our single saving grace is the few books we have are at Q10 usually. And here I was thinking of trading my vis in for some more books!
We should just cut off Florum compleatly. What have they ever done for us?
After reviewing some of the old threads to look for the use of our favor I did find that we have a book that Max traded for
He was also paid 150 silver of which 80 were spent on 40 fishing boats and new houses ( thus the stone masons ) I think he was also building some Roman baths.
I know we asked Florum for something I just can not find what we got from them.
We didn't get anything. Cut them off. Down with Florum
If we don't get our vis salary, why do any work for the covenant? And I am not talking about splitting the vis surplus. Any normal covenant does that, with or without a hook or boon. Whether we have it on hand or not, Novus Mane owes a vis debt to each of us. They can pay me latter as long as they keep a record of the account.
According to my records, the last season of Development was Autumn 1221. So, I shal presume that Roberto and Wirth travelled to Greece in Winter 1222, and that this most recent adventure took place in Spring 1222. I know that this is reversed from the way we are playing it out, but it makes more sense that way; we get away from the weather for the winter, and is logical for troop movements (warm but not over hot). This clears those events and seasons out right off of the bat. All Andrew has to do is not kill of Roberto or drastically alter him in any way Then after that, if Iolar wants to try and take a swipe at Roberto, I say bring it on baby!
No, please don’t. Roberto thinks Iolar is his friend. Roberto was just shooting his mouth off, talking about foes he has faced and the ones Benard faces. Men of war say harsh things.
I do not yet know what the results of Winter shall be. The 5xp from the Spring adventure will be split evenly amongst the five Abilities that Roberto depended upon; 1xp apiece in Charm, Folk Ken, Leadership, Single Weapon, and Strategy.
That leaves ten seasons to go. In three years time I owe the covenant three seasons of service. I am counting my strategic and diplomatic endeavors as one of those
Are you saying that you get more than a split of the vis?
Vis Salary just means that you must work for the split and just not get it like all the other covenants. Our work is tied into our feudal obligation to Florum. So if we break that pact it might change some things. So you work to get a split but there is nothing to split. Something I recognized right away and the main reason Havlard is so keen on getting new income is so we can start getting a surplus.
Several Covenants in Rhine and Normandy are trying to form a new Tribunal made from parts of both called the Lotharingian Tribunal. Florum is a major member of the group trying to form the new Tribunal. If it is formed they will not have the feudal system.
We pay Florum 5 Vim vis every year. Because we only have one Vim left after the aegis we must trade 2 Creo and 2 Perdo to get the 4 Vim. Then we need 100 pounds of silver to play for upkeep of the Covenant. For that we sell 10 pawns of Vis for 100 silver.
Max will have to decide how much money the fishing fleet brings in. If we can clear 100 silver we do not have to sell 10 pawns of vis. We have a slight complication because Benard will some/all demand the money to support the Castle. One reason I suggested that Benard set up a toll at the ford. Gives him some money and lets the fishing fleet support us.
I do not support extracting the vis from the aura. If we do too much it could lower the aura strength.
Florum is the most powerful covenant in Normandy. Sure we can take them.
Ah! I personally hate the Logtharian Tribunal. Somehow it keeps disrupting Iberian history. At one time there was a Val-Negra Tribunal, which was split into Provencal and Iberia. Somehow, and I do not understand it, this Logtharthing interferes with the historical boundaries. So let them do it. They will be in that tribunal, we will be in this one.
We need to stop selling vis. We should rather use the vis to conjure silver. Roberto will gladly invent such a spell for you
Bernard just gets 10%. That seems reasonable. If he sets up a toll on the ford, he gets 10% of that as well (but I thought the ford belonged to the other town).
Where does it say that? Is that from RoP-Magic? I will look that up. But does Max have that book?
Anyway, Roberto will spend two seasons extracting vis, get 4 pawns of vim, and trade it himself for the creo and perdo
I didn't say we. I said I could take them
The rest of you would be a liability
4 pawns of Vim = 1 pawn of technique vis. Not very nice I would rather make the money and stop selling the 10 pawns.
We will also get 6 pawns per year from the tournament awards. I just have to decide what to get. So for the next 7 years we will clear at least 6 pawns per year. Get other income and we will clear up to 16 pawns per year.
Unless I missed some part of the negotiations, the 10% means nothing. We have submitted to be ruled by his noble. Therefore she technically owns all of this. Amazingly enough, she should pay for our/his upkeep. At this point Benard and his Lady have no skin in this game. We are paying for protection and that is it. If he is "in charge" he can redirect funds from, say, your lab, to rebuilding the wall and buy himself some nice clothes and good food. We have no right to collect tolls on the ford. He does.
I would also make it clear that he and none of his men be taught how to get through the regio to the higher aura. It will be fun to watch them warp in any case.
You missed a lot then
We are a commune. The deal was that we still rule ourselves. We just pay fair taxes to the noble and support a town militia of volunteers (no conscripts). Bernard is here in an administrative capacity only. He collects the money and trains the militia. He cannot redirect funds from anywhere to anything. It is still all private property. Scroll back, read the dramatic speech I gave him
And neither he nor we have the right to collect tolls from the ford. I believe that right belongs to the next town over.
True, they do not know about the regio (though I had always thought it was a simple to navigate one). However, it is not fun to watch people suffer needless warping. But he doesn't really have men. He has a few key personel he brought with. The rest are our villagers (volunteers only).
We control a ford since it is in the Covenant construction. So we can then collect tolls on it. Not much at this point. We need to get merchants to land here to travel inland.
Soldaes I uncovered an new mystery today. Mobile broadband! My vim score is increasing. I can write on this forum even though my pace is slow due to vacation. Once the fish harbour gets going we get about 40 pounds of vis per year, that is the suggested income in covenants for a dozen fishing crews. That and Aelianus plans for a fish smokehouse should give some more income. Yes a smell of fish will engulf Novus Mane and that will not be kept of as it is a mundane fish smell. I see that you have discovered that my intent where that Novus Mane where a run down place where only misfit magi would want to live and Aelianus as he is the sole heir of the realm.
Florum and Aelianus both believe in the Logtharian Tribunal. Perhaps a good seed for the next tribunal… Novus Mane is dirt poor for now, at least until we have solved the 10pawns of vis for 100 pounds of silver. The good new are that Aelianus made every magus a senior magus and thus you have you share of the vis without doing some duties. So you get a fair share of almost nothing.
The favour done by Florum where lifting of the payment so that Novus Mane could restore the harbour thus giving a possibility to create a fishing fleet. A toll house won’t generate any income for now, there are not that may people travelling by except those that are delivering goods to Novus Mane. But in times of war it could be interesting.
Let’s count the vis again. Seisin vis (25 in total, 4 Animal, 8 Vim, 4 Ignem, 2 Creo, 3 Herbam, 2 Perdo). 10 pawns are traded and every vim, creo and perdo vis are either gifted to Florum or used in the Aegis. Thus 4 Animal, 4 Ignem and 3 Herbam remain, from those 10 pawns are traded and one vis remains. I say that we divide the victory vis amongst the magi (one each per year) and then save the single vis we get and perhaps buy some books in the future.
I have the RoP:Magic so I will use those rules if needed. If you wish to extract vis then there should be some vis extraction equipment in the temple, though they are not made up yet just mentioned. If you need vis then try to sell of some service or write a book. Aelianus crafts items to care for his vis needs.
Okay, looking at the Aura Variation Rules, I would say we have a pretty good leeway for Vis Extraction. The Aura Modifier is calculated yearly, and you only check for Weakening if the total modifier is -4 or lower (if the total is +4 or higher, we would check for Strengthening). If the total is -3 to +3, no check is made, and the modifiers of the previous year do not affect the next year. Right now our modifier is +2 (+1 for Magical Activity of a typical Spring Covenant, +1 for casting the Aegis). Each instance of Vis Extraction is -1, so we could have up to five extractions a year for a total modifier of -3, and thus do not need to worry about Weakening (excepting the effects of spell botches).
The reason I am pushing this so hard is because one of the major vis hemorrhages we are currently experiencing is the exchanging other types of vis to obtain the Vim we need to pay Florum. We are paying rates of 2-to-1 vf in order to do this, so in essence it is costing us 20 pawns a year. If three or four of us chip in to extract vis, we can easily come up with 10 Vim and stay within safety limits to avoid the risk of Aura Weakening. The result? We use that to pay Florum and get to keep the 20 pawns of other vis for ourselves.
Now, since we have all been elevated to equal status, none of us owes an annual season of service anymore. So, as encouragement, I propose the following legislation…
• For every pawn of Vim that a member magus puts into the covenant’s vis stocks, they may take two pawns of any other Form. A magus may only exchange 3 pawns of Vim per year at this bonus rate, further exchanges are at a one-to-one rate.
• A member magus may exchange other kinds of vis with the covenant at one-to-one ratio. Form can be exchanged for Form and Technique for Technique, but not Form for Technique or visa versa. One may not make an exchange to obtain the last pawn of any one Art from the stores, as it is to the covenants greater benefit to maintain at least one pawn of every Art in their stocks.
• To insure the integrity of the Aura, a magus may not extract vis from the Aura more than once every two years, unless special dispensation is granted by the council.
• Creo vis, Corpus vis, and any excess Vim vis is to be kept in the covenant stores for emergencies and other needful purposes for the good of the covenant. These Arts are not available for exchanges or dividends.
• After all expenses and mandated reservations, any remaining vis income is to be divided evenly amongst the members as Dividends. For the purpose of these calculations, one pawn of Technique vis equals two pawns of Form vis. In the case of an uneven division, the council shall decide whether pawns should be drawn from available stocks to even the division, or if the excess should be put into the stocks.
• Once every three years, if the stocks are determined to be healthy, the covenant may choose to draw out a portion of stocks to be paid as bonus dividends. Ant of the Arts may be drawn out for this, even those that are normally restricted. However, the draw shall not take out more than half the stock of any Art nor the last pawn of any Art.
I was able to think of the reward from the tournament So I'll post it here for review.
Harvesting Mandrake roots on mid-summer eve from a grove within the realm of the Boar King. A full harvest can yield 3 pawns of Corpus vis. But special care must be taken to keep the Mandrake quite less the Boar king is alerted to the theft.
A flat expanse of rock is bare, surrounded by low scrub. In the center there is a smooth, bowl-like depression, apparently naturally formed. At dawn on the summer solstice a strange dew collects in the depression, which must be carefully gathered, as it is an exceedingly small quantity. This dew appears to be water, but with a thicker consistency - almost like oil, yet not oily. Enough can be gathered to fill 1 small vial of Terram vis.
Pollen from a Rose bush that grows within a fairy forest can be harvested a All May eve for 2 pawns of Rego vis. This is best done at night as the bees that feed from the nectar are very fierce.
The covenant will have accumulated 9 corpus, 3 Terram and 6 Rego vis from Tournament winnings.
If we follow Marko's plan then we can extract 4 vim per year to give to Florum thus saving us 2 Cr + 2 Pr per year.
when the fishing fleet gets going ( up to Max when that happens) we get +4 vis per year that we do not have to sell.
So at the beginning of the next adventure Novus Main vis store should have
9 corpus, 3 Terram,6 Creo, 6 Perdo and 6 Rego. Plus 4/year of either Ig,He or An when the fleet gets going.
Can I ask why David is getting any Vis? If we are giving him vis them please recruit someone to play him. Otherwise let him come out of his hole and pick it up himself.
There was someoe posting n the "Players looking for Games" thread. He asked to join my game, but I am overfull with a dozen players. Maybe he could fill out David? Otherwise, I feel he is a useful NPC to have around.
