Right. I like that, in 4th edition, they actually had a name for it, instead of all this "How can it be a stress die if it doesn't botch?" stuff. So, you have Simple Die (0=10, 1=1), Stress Die, (0=possible botch, 1=doubling), and Quality Die (0=0, 1=doubling).
15. If it's vision based, Halie has Keen Vision when in Heartbeast form (which is a lot of the time).
Regarding looking for vis sources, Halie can spont a Sight range InVi non-fatiguingly and cover a lot of ground as an erne, with pretty awesome distance vision.
I can't find what thread it was in, but PB determined that the shrubs on Eilean Chon have might. I was getting those vibes of "I don't want you to make a bigger building." So I guess all we can do is build upwards instead. Four stories should fit well inside the aura, but my design for the Garden Cube is off the table
Also, if there's any interest... grog adventure. If anyone wants to do a pirate adventure, I can effectively crowd source my grog/sailors. Talia and crew can sail up towards Inverness, and she can create a ship in the North Atlantic. It could be autumn 1222 activity (or later) if people are interested.
Talia's crew is 12 grogs. 2 grogs will be returning with her to Insula Canaria, leaving 10 men. We need at least 6 more men to make a decent pirate crew, 10 more would be better. These 6+ men would have to be recruited from Insula Canaria. Talia would transfer some of the magic items to the Atta Buoy to make life on board more...tolerable.
Sorry, I guess I didn't make myself as clear as I would have liked on that, then. You can expand the laboratory, but to do so would also require leveling off more of the island than what's there now. The top of Eilean Chon is currently 4½ above lake level.
The island's footprint is 60 feet by 45, or 2700 square feet. The level top of the island, if I'm reading my notes, is currently 1,026 square feet, or roughly 37 x 28 (37' x 27'9").
If you regoed the dirt on the island so that the sides are fairly vertical (about 77°), instead of a 21° slope like it is now, then you could lower the top of the island as low as 3'3", and the level top would be 58'7" by 44". If you back out the 3' or so on each side for the rosebushes, that leaves you 52' by 38' to build the lab, which is 1,976 square feet, or enough space for three Size +1 laboratories.
In any case if we find the regio and it has a 5+ aura and space for labs, that'd be fine.
Halie's would have to be on Eilean Chon outside the regio (assuming Rego transportation doesn't work across regio boundaries) but adding one story on top of the existing building should be easy enough.
Is this Haile's familiar, Athenus? I don't see any stats on him. I could only use him as an assistant, not a familiar, since he's not Talia's familiar. I was primarily targeting Trimalchio and/or Aodhan, as they are a bit closer to needing their rituals. Haile, and her strong selkie blood going to age 50.
Also, on the LR subject. I have a question as to whether Ysebrand, or anyone with a Supernatural Virtue/Flaw can benefit from them. The language is Supernatural Ability, but it seems to be a distinction that doesn't really fit. Why should someone with Second Sight (which confers an ability) get the full benefit of an LR while someone with Unaging or an Immunity doesn't. I lean towards anyone with any Supernatural nature, virtue or flaw. But, I can see in this case, how some might consider my opinion biased.
Athenus is Halie's True Love. (Bjornaer don't get familiars in my saga.)
I had thought that anyone could benefit from the LR. Looking at the description, it says that if it's made for a magus or a character with a Supernatural Ability gets full benefit, while those who are non-magical get 1/10 instead of 1/5 (and I had to re-re-read the last paragraph to catch the "a Supernatural Ability" distinction). So, it looks to me like, if you have or had the Gift, or have any Supernatural Ability, you get full benefit. Unaging is a Supernatural Virtue (the Virtues and Flaws Index pdf is wrong), I would call Failed Apprentice eligible also, even though it's a Social Status. Immunity, I would say, generally doesn't unless it's a funky Immunity (like Fire or Iron or something).
The only Art we don't have a book for is Ignem. Do you want to swap out Vim for Ignem of the same Quality/Level? Or shuffle so that Ignem is a 6/7 and something else becomes the 15/15?
Well, if we don't have a particularly strong interest/need in Ignem, Talia could actually teach it, or she gets her Latin to 5 and write a book about it, with skilled bookmakers, she could actually get to Q9L5 or Q8L6 in a season.
It's one of those things I've been thinking of having her do for kicks.
My problem as a player is that while some of these books may not be great for the current characters if we ever get to the point where we have apprentices, they are great for them.
Yeah, I bought the Vim book and the Intellego books with my build points. That was before A) I spent my personal build points on an Intellego text Halie can actually use, and B) before Joe (who is the awesomest NPC of this saga).
If I can retcon the Intellego text for Perdo and the Vim text for Mentem, then we can make the 5/5 book on Ignem instead of Mentem. Halie can try to replace the books Duncan stole with other sorts of trades.
