Tartessos grew up in Ferol, Leon and was chosen as apprentice to Francisco de Nasi ex Verditius and served in Cuprus, a nearby covenant. Unfortunately the covenant fell upon difficult times near his gauntlet and he was unable to stay. He hired on with the Caravan, then doing studies nearby, and found a community of scholars that valued his with and intellect. He had every intention of moving on to more permanent roots, but as the years passed, always chose to stay. He befriended and bonded as familiar a silver fox named Vulpus, and the two voraciously devoured the incredible library afforded by the caravan while contributing to both the research and service of the caravan. His sybaritic tastes were sometimes at odds with the spartan caravan furnishings, but he used monies created by ritual to purchase those small luxuries deemed most urgent, always adhering to the 2 lbs per year limit (but rarely spending less!). In 1219, with the caravan newly settled into Malta, Tartessos and Vulpus received an urgent summons from the Primus of House Verditius. A customer had placed a large yet urgent order and Tartessos was the closest journeyman Verditius sculptor; his assistance was needed to complete this order. Tartessos had long wished to study the Nuragic sculpture of Sardinia and thus parted with his friends vowing to catch up with the caravan in time. Only time can tell when that will be.

Vulpus Seasons, 62 with caravan, 8 at Sardinia. Vulpus has an academic personality so eschews practical arts in favor of theoretical/academic skills
I do not know how to create an animal or do skills prior to the familiar bond. At this point all skills start at zero. If I get guidance statting him, I see him as Int-3 (due to non magical creature), high com/dex/qui. He is the stereotypical ivory tower academic, as full of himself as he is of knowledge, and willing to share both with anyone that will sit still for a moment to listen. He lives in the moment, having few or no long term goals, but is willing to do much for an hours discussion of Philosophae, or for a tractatus he hasn;t read.

Money Management
Tartessos likes his luxuries a bit more than the average caravan mage, and cast Touch of Midas his first year. Consensus on the forums seems to be that this created about 80 lbs of gold which he can easily divide with Rego magic. He makes his casting tools from this mass, using approximately 1 ounce per tool in the form of jewelry (necklace/rings/earrings, etc) that are easily worn. He currently has 9 of these, using 9 ounces, and has an additional (71) one ounce lumps reserved for future casting tools. This used 5 lbs.

He spends .2 lbs/year on unspecified luxuries to ease the hardships of life on the road. He has gotten used to this level of lifestyle and expects to continue it. He has spent .2*22 = 4.4 lbs on this so far. He scrupulously sticks to the 2 mythic pound equivalent per year to avoid future issues related to created money.

When opportunity arises, he changes additional small amounts of gold for "natural" silver, gold and gems when outside the boundaries of the OOH. By my count he has had the opportunity to do this six times, and would trade an additional 1.2 lbs of gold for 12 mythic pounds in natural coinage (.2 lbs/2 Mythic Pounds per trip outside the border).

Lastly, he has saved his salary of .1 mythic pounds per year for a rainy day fund not allowed to be covered by his gold. Therefore he has an additional 2 lbs of natural coin.

His methods are likely inefficient, requiring services of money changers, assume loss of an additional 4 lbs over time due to this methodology.

See below for mundane book book expenditure of .3 lbs gold/3 Mythic Pounds.

Gold remaining: 65.1 lbs in .2 lb lumps
Casting tool material remaining: 71 one ounce lumps
Natural coin cached: 14 Mythic Pounds in small coin/small gems

No rolls are over 2 after adjustment, no all result in no age increase (although I got really worried when I rolled the 1, 8)

Whew. Almost there.

After Tartessos left the Caravan, he spent at least two years in Sardinia at Verdi, spending two seasons in service of the House. In addition he will buy average quality mundane books on Civil/Canon Law, Medicine and Theology for Vulpus to read. Assume these are L4/SQ10, costing 1 Mythic Pound each per Covenants, I forget the page number)

During this time he will stay in touch with the caravan via letter (and maybe even an occasional visit). As such he is ready to be introduced at anytime Silveroak deems appropriate. Some of his possessions are cached with the caravan and may, with Silveroaks permission, come into play at a later date.

Edit: 3/13/15 reconstruction finished

Silveroak -

If you want to check out the build as of guantlet, I'll add post-guantlet season by season in the second post. As about half our troop currently isn't posting, I thought I'd make him a little older (and take advantage of the amazing caravan library), but that makes the season by season a very long post, probably about 10 pages by Word document. Should I cut and past something that large, or should I put the file up on Dropbox instead?

Given that this person is joining post establishment it means he would not have been part of the caravan...

well doodles! I guess I'll have some reworking to do on Paphos and Penko then, as they were connected to Tartessos. I'll come up with something new, and tinker a bit with the other two.

Well, I've given it some thought, and I'd really like to try to convince you to allow the character concept to stand, i.e. a member of the caravan that was called away for an indefinite period of time on House business, or something of equal weight. I intended this idea to accommodate my desire to be connected to the caravan and yet also have room for your idea of joining at a later, unspecified time.

When I originally designed my character, Tartessos, Paphos and Penko were all connected by their shared history and had worked together in the past. Losing that link wouldn't change Penko much (or he could just be deleted in favor of a less redundant character, now), and Paphos would lose his hermetic background and forge companion history. No biggies for either of them, but it does make them less connected and more of a random collection of people. Under this scenario I COULD still play a random verditius, but he would be pale shadow of the original concept.

If you have any other concerns not voiced, such as power level reached by studying season by season, I'm sure we could work something out that addresses them.

We can go with that, given the nature of the bargain which led to him being a late arrival, However I will require that his last 2 years at minimum were spent away from the caravan.

About the familiar, his advancement total will be reduced by his might.

yah, that was a real stumbling block. Silveroak cut through that knot by suggesting not using a magical creature. He'll be a perfectly ordinary silver fox dumb as a stump (int -3), but REALLY wants to argue philosophae with you!

Can you elaborate on this so I take it into account properly for Cheech? Thanks.

A creature's Magic Might is subtracted from all Study Qualities. This can be offset by vis, at a 1 pawn per 2 per season rate. The idea is you can either have a cool magically powered familiar that can do stuff, but advances slowly (if at all), or you can take a less capable familiar that advances quicker. Lab rats like ourselves gain strongly in our lab totals by a low (or zero) might familiar, but you could design a high might bodyguard instead of a lab partner.

Interesting. means he is going to learn more slowly than I had hoped. But so be it. Still like the magical monkey Cheech.

There is an exception to that after the familiar bond has been created- they advance normally when being taught by or working alongside the mage for whom they are a familiar.

at gauntlet you have 200 points in abilities and 143 points in arts, leaving 2 unspent. raise Herbem or take two others at 1 at that point?

added the 2 points to Herbam. Also added spells known, money management, and post caravan years, so the first two posts should be complete and ready for review.

Lastly, I want to run his Items of Quality by you. He spent 30 vis on them, presumably at 3 pawns per. Here are what I'm looking at.

3 Item set "Wargear of the Loyal Hero", also known as "Grog-in-a-Box"
Longsword +4 harm human and animal bodies, intended to add to attack totals
Shield +5 protection, intended to add to defense totals
Chain Huaberk (partial chain) +7 protect wearer, intended to add to soak totals

(3) Workman's Gloves +4 things by touch, bonus to affect, intended to add to mundane Craft:Mason totals and relevant Verditius lab activities
(2) Mason Chisels +2 shape stone, intended to add to mundane Craft:Mason totals and relevant Verditius lab activities

Beechwood Folio +3 knowledge, intended to hold lab notes and add to Magic Theory totals involving lab notes, as well as translating them into a copyable form. This is intended to specifically not aid in simple copying as that does not manipulate or use the knowledge therein.

Bronze Quill +7 scribing, intended to add to Profession:Scribe totals and Language totals when copying or writing.

If these get finalized, then Tartessos should be done and ready for review.

What book details items of quality?

They are in HOH: Mystery Cults, a Verditius Mystery. It is a process that makes an item the ideal version of itself, allowing a single shape/form bonus chosen during the season of "enchantment" to add to a skill when used appropriately. They take one season and 1 pawn to create, so I am using the 3 to 1 Verditius guideline to purchase. Note that the above has not yet been approved by Silveroak and is pending.

If you are interested in further on them, I suggest looking at the master shape/form pdf on the Atlas website. In particular beech, a crown, or even clothing might help with initiations, but I gotta admit, the initiation scripts aren't really balanced with IOQ's in mind. I'd probably only recommend them for self initiations. Other than initations, the sky's the limit. As for once we get further into the game, well, Verdi is only 2-3 days travel....

Thanks for the details, Kuiti.

My apologies for the delay in processing this character. However when I look at your post gauntlet advancement,

is a bad assumption. If you advance annually you simply pick your 30 xp, if you advance seasonally you advance with the resources of the caravan. The only allowed 'adventure' prior to the game allowed at this point is finding a familiar.

no worries - I was thinking it was unrealistic to be allowed four seasons of unbroken study every year, and chose "service" to break it up. If you like that idea, I can switch them all to exposure, if you don't, I'll switch them to studying something there's plenty to choose from).

No hurry on this character, he's a backburner until you decide it's time.
