«Oh ... come on you two. After Ronan.» Arnar almost shouts as he tries to repeat Ronan's maneuver without hesitation.
simple die athletics+dex target number of 3 if you think you have any chance of missing it...
Bran follows into the regio.
[Bran’s Athletics + Dex is +3 so no chance of failure.]
Arnar succeeds too.
Sionnach repeats the act right after Arnar does, also succeeding with ease [athletics + dex is also 3].
When you jump you find yourself in a cavern the size of a large banquet hall, lit with a sourceless, faint, ice blue light. The cavern is cold, like the coldest winter day you have ever felt, and the stone shapes of the cavern are black and haunting, suggesting predatory figures lurking in the shadows.
Waiting for the others to come through, Arnar looks around, anxiously scrutinising the shapes in the shadows. Can he be sure that they stand still?
they seem to shift, but that could b the effects of low lighting or even just an effect of the aura itself. I will note it was summer in Hibernia during this adventure, and you have been dropped into a cave as cold as the coldest winter... I expect you are not dressed appropriately. To be fair the cold may be affecting your senses as well...
OOC. Sorry, it took me some time to realise the implication ... the coldest winter day we have ever felt. Arnar is from Iceland, so that is actually rather cold.
OOC2. In terms of room spells, the cavern is Size +1? Or?
As he sees the others, he says, «this is bloody cold. Does any of you have any good Ignem tricks up your sleeve?»
The sudden chill makes Sionnach yelp in surprise. He is not very observant of the shadows as he has a hard time enough already just getting used to the cold. "If only we'd come across this place better dressed for the temperature..."
As nobody volunteers an Ignem trick, Arnar quickly does the first thing that pops into his mind, a Chamber of Summer Breezes. He is unlikely to get more than a diameter duration, but at least that makes it easier to think for everyone.
As the warm air starts flowing, he says, «this won't last long. Any ideas to keep warm down here?»
OOC. He rolls 20+Aura, so unless the aura is negative or +10, he gets Touch/Diam/Ind/Size+1.
Aura of 4. Aspected to winter, but since that doesn't give a penalty...
... so the temperature is comfortable for the next two minutes ... and the air is fresh too ...
not really comfortable- the summer breeze s mixing with air from deep winter, but at least the discomfort is now mild.
and the air is definitely fresh
"Thank you, Arnar. That feels much easier to deal with." Bran says at the welcome increase of temperature though it is nowhere near comfortable for the clothes he is wearing. "We must first determine that this Regio has the effect of making arcane connections across its border unusable. Then, if it does have that effect, we can return to Qui Sonant Pro Quieto, gather the spoon and some warmer clothes to bring it here when we can perhaps explore more. Does anyone know a simple spell we could use? Perhaps if we gathered the hair of some animal we might try a simple spell to see an image of that animal? My skill with spontaneous magic is rather weak so I doubt I could succeed but one of you might..."
«I could probably do something with Creo Auram. If we have some light material which we can break in half for the Arcane Connection, I could step outside and try to blow it away, while you observe. However, we'd lose the warm breeze by then, so we need another way for you to stay warm. Any ideas?»
It is also worth noting that the entrance to the regio is 15 feet above the ground...
OOC. You mean the exit? For us to get out?
Just as the spell expires, and hopefully Arnar recovered from the exertion in the meantime, he tries an other spell of CrIg on his own clothing to be warm, at least on the inside.
OOC. Base 2 + Touch + Sun = Level 5. Casting Total 16. I think Base 2 is ok, «warm to the touch», rather than 3 «hot to the touch»; they should be as warm as possible without burning. Rolled 8 for level 12.
yes, the entrance/exit. Unless you can find another.
Having cast the second spell, Arnar takes to studying the room more carefully, unless interrupted by his sodales. Is the exit above clearly visible, as a unobstructed man hole? Are there any other exits? Loose items?
As he recovers fatigue, he will offer a warm clothes spell to whomever appears least comfortable in the Winter cavern. «Alternatively, if you feel adventurous, I can try to blow you out of the regio with a gust of air,» he adds tongue in cheek.
