[Bran rolls an 8 but spends a confidence to improve that to 11 (already reflected on sheet.]
He realizes that the reason the face seems to follow him is that it is actually facing the wall- as if it were an impression where someone with a 10 foot tall face had pressed it into the wall of the cave and left an impression. Because you aren't used to seeing inside out faces it creates an optical illusion that it is following you.
OOC. For the record. The Summer Breezes only had diameter duration. Arnar has his warm clothes, but how is the ambient temperature at the moment?
Arnar looks around the cavern for any hints to the source of the Mentem magic or the nature of the huge face. Lacking the abilities for such research, it is very unlikely that he learns anything new, and when he is satisfied that there is nothing obvious to find, he walks over to the chimney leading down to see what he can see.
the ambient temperature at the fringes is still deep winter level cold, but the fire from the burning mage is keeping the center much more pleasant.
There are wisps of shadows flitting around the room that could be a traick of the light, but given the mentem effect you detected could be something else. The chimney essentially descends straight down into darkness at this point.
No ladder, I suppose?
no ladder
Arnar turns and shouts over his shoulder, «does anyone have a good light spell for the chimney?»
Bran approaches Arnar and the hole, “I can cast the lamp spell I cast before and we can drop the stone into the pit. I should stay bright at least until I stop reciting poetry.” And Bran begins to cast Poem of Lamp without Flame.
[Bran's casting total is an 11 so no fatigue loss.]
The stone in Bran's hand lights up and he is about to drop it into the hole as he continues reciting poetry.
They gather eagerly around the hole to watch as the light falls down the chimney.
Sionnach in particular peers into the hole as the rock falls, paying attention to any sound of the rock reaching the bottom.
The rock falls about 20 feet before it bounces off of a sloped surface and deflects off in the direction of the face, under your current chamber.
«Hmm ... that did not give us much. I am not sure I want to go down there.»
How wide is the chimney? Would it be flyable?
about 4 foot diameter, the owl shape could fly it, or a human might climb it with an athleticism roll.
Unfortunately, my eagle form is larger than the typical owl ... is it still doable?
the largest wingspan for a typical white tailed eagle is 245 cm, or about 2.45 meters, so no, it could not fit.
Shivering here away from the fire Bran says, "I think we should leave, go to Qui Sonant Pro Quieto to collect the Spoon and things we might need like warm clothes and rope before returning."
«Of course,» says Arnar and turns after the others, curious about how they want to ascend or be ascended to the exit.
«Do you think Ronan will be back soon, from the twilight?»
"Let's hope he does," Sionnach says as he approaches the place from where Arnar descended, considering whether to transform or not.
Turning to Arnar, "You wouldn't be able to lift us gently? How forcefully are we talking about here?"
«I am not sure,» he admits, «I have not tried it much in the field. The formula was designed, I think, as ... euhm ... an offensive combat spell. But! The offence is mainly in the descent, which is totally uncontrolled, but you won't descend, I hope, because you want to get out on the top, don't you? In theory the ascent can be made gentle, with some finesse.»
OOC. @silveroak, He is talking about the canon Pull of the Skybound Winds. How much control does he have on the ascent? Can he pull someone up relatively slowly and keep them hovering by concentrating? Yeah ... probably a finesse roll ... ease factor?
