The Visitor (Spring 1235)

Roberto wispers to Wirth in French. I had considered that, but I wished to calm everyone. I am considering using Luns of the Fish and Seven League Stride to go find him myself. I will bring a chalkboard.

Lucas raises an eyebrow when Roberto starts whispering to Wirth. This was not the time for secret communications among the magi.

I have not had a chance to get to this. Rolling dice from the phone is difficult. i should be able to get to the library latter today and do it from my laptop

Johan:
Int +0, Mediterranean Lore 2, die roll 1d10=6
Total of 8, Confidence can take it up to 11 or 14 if needed.

So, you go your separate ways. For several days...

Acutus, you have no trouble at all. Living as a shark, swimming, eating, preying, this is what you are. This is so simpler, so natural than all these human shenanigans, it is refreshing to be at sea again. The trip takes several days, but you don't miss the ship at all. Nothing strange of unusual happens, and you rule unfettered over your kingdom.

Johan and co:
EF was 12, so 14 it is.
Johan is puzzled. He never went near the island, and doesn't know where it is. Not like he'll let such boring details stop him. Grasping what little Riad can tell him, and what alien depictions acutus said, he thinks he can get a grip on where it is roughly. He hopes. And after all, he's too much of a good captain not to be able to find it. What's a tiny island to such a sailor?
And so, between his good guesses and Horus acting as a sharp-eyed scout, he manages to find the island without anyone noticing that he had no real idea from where it was in the first place.

And so, roughly 10 days after first taking the sea, you come in view of Riad's Island as the sun finishes its rise.
It's a small, crescent-shaped strech of land, north of the egyptian coast. The village, visible from the sea, is located in the middle of the crescent, and the ships look ashore. Horus can see some cultures behind the village, but these don't get far, as the rocky center of the island rises over its sides.

Who does what how?

If we can see then then they can see us. Wirth and Lucas, what do you guys think? Touch down? Or should I go ahead as a scout & herald?

"It's always safer to look before we leap," Lucas replies. "So I'd say a little scouting is warranted. How did you have in mind? I could certainly fly over in hawk form if you want. But that would only give us limited intelligence. Were you thinking of Seven-League Striding down there and looking around invisibly? Or were you thinking of going in openly and seeing how they react?"

Roberto smiles as Cidito brings out his trusty flying carpet and unrolls it. Roberto hops on and calls out You stay here with Lucas and With and keep in mental contact with me. Yo! Riyad! Hop on with me and take a ride!. With or without him, Roberto flamboyantly surfs down to the settlment.
Shields are up (all defensive spells), and shared with Riyad when possible. Roberto also offers to share Parma.

As Roberto disappears on his flying carpet, Lucas shakes his head, smiles and asks Wirth, "has he always rushed into danger and the unknown with such gusto?"

Then he adds to Cidito, "let me know if it sounds like they're having any trouble. I can fly overhead as a hawk and put people to sleep just by looking at them. Might be handy if they need to deal with hostiles."

As Acutus gets close to the island, he'll breach in order to try and locate Johan's ship. He'll continue to do so unless he is spotted by another ship. Knowing that the ship can fly, he'll also be looking up as well as on the surface.

Aerial recon is always good, says Wirth

Riad is a little destabilised by Roberto's swift acting and casting.
Uh... Yes, sure. What is Parma?

Wirth nods, frowning.
Always.

Roberto!
Let lucas and I go. Invisible birds will be swifter than a big red carpet. More inconspicuous too.

(Oooh, I just like lucas style)

I assumed that, once danger was past, the ship went back to the sea, especially to approach the island.
Sailing mundanely doesn't tire Johan, and is also a lot less blatant than a flying ship, which is always of interest to Wirth (he'd push for that, just in case). Marko, tell me if you intended otherwise.

Anyway, Acutus manages to find the ship, sooner if it's in the sea, waaaay later if it's flying. He also had time to ascertain that there's probably no other ship around (unless, of course, it is somewhat cloaked).

It makes sense to have put to sea, so let's go with that. Roberto hops on the sarpet and beginst casting protective spells on the islander. But before he flys off Wirth begins to shout at him. Roberto frowns. Spoil sport. But he hops down and listens to alternate plans.
Okay, we will try it your way this time.

Once Acutus spots the ship he will breach in order to make himself known. Once they get closer to the island, he will shift to his human form and float (via Rise of the Feathery Body), in all of his naked glory, up to the deck of the ship.

When Wirth suggests an aerial scouting mission with the birds first, Lucas uses his ring to shift into hawk form and perches on the side rail. Then, after wordlessly casting another spell[sup]1[/sup], he speaks up. "You mentioned something about going invisibly. Can you make us invisible?"

[sup]1[/sup] Cast Voice of the Bjornaer Magus without incantations or gestures: 1d10 + 12 (Mu) + 10 (An) + 2 (Sta) = 1d10=6 + 24 = 30; success

Roberto glowers. You came up with this alternate plan, yet you lack the capabilities needed to pull it off? I can turn you invisible for as long as I concentrate, but I would rather turn myself invisible and get the action. You do not play fair.

((I don't believe Lucas ever actually suggested himself being invisible. Whether that's an IC or OOC confusion, I'm not sure))

((He just asked if someone could turn him invisible, so Roberto is just expressing disappointment  ))

"Wirth mentioned the invisible part," Lucas replies. "I simply suggested flying over the island as an inconspicuous bird."

(hey guys, by the way, there's a naked magus floating next to the boat 8) )
