The Voyage home (fall 1220)

Paphos will finally arrive near the fountain and slowly sweep above it, feeling for any other invisible people. Assuming he misses everyone, he'll give a soft "Psst" to try to find the group.

Sparks is going to continue to watch the house, especially if the priest actually try to bring dogs in - she thinks it's really funny to watch dogs who get a snoutful of dragon scent.

It's good to be top of the food chain.

Paphos spots Pallas, who guides him to the rest of the group.

Sparks sees the priest enter the house. The dogs cower at first but then follow the scent trail up the stairs to the roof. Kathrine tries to argue with the priest who nods to one of the warriors, and the warrior slaps her across the face.

Sparks gasps in outrage, but know the only thing she could do would burn the house down; she's been cautioned not to flame indoors since she was a wee little hatchling.

The dogs are on the roof barking and the priest and his men search, but do not ransack the house before leaving in disgust.

Back in the square Pallas is able to corral everyone together and into an alley before the invisibility is dropped.

"Okay," Talus says once everyone is back together. "I'm not sure how the dogs found us since my illusion should have changed our smell as well as sight and sound. But maybe I didn't pay enough attention to that aspect of the spell. I'll try it again focusing more on changing our spell as well as appearance and sound. Paphos, could you warn the ladies that I'm going to change their appearances? Then we need to get inside before sunset, as these disguises will wear off when the sun goes down."

Image Phantom us base 5 - "Change an object completely, in all things except touch." So it should be able to make us smell different too. I'll cast it again on everyone, paying closer attention to changing the way people smell.

Paphos will translate for anything Talus needs, but has a suggestionWhy don't we head out of town while we can? Let's catch a boat from a city not overrun with infernal priests.

Are you planning to return to your rooms and reclaim your things? Admittedly you were traveling light...

"I like that idea," Talus says. "I was going to suggest we head to the outskirts of town. But if there's another port reasonably close by, that would be a better option."

There is a ship headed for Rome if you want to book passage, it won't take you all the way to Malta, but you can certainly change ships once in Rome...

Let's investigate the rooms invisibly from the air to see if they're being guarded. If they are, we can abandon the stuff. It's mostly Talus's clothes, and those can be replaced, if necessary. Then let's book passage to Rome. I'm sure we can get to Malta from Rome.

The rooms are not being guarded, the group obtains the luggage and gets on a ship bound for Rome, with Sparks stowing away. Malta is but a few days from there...

Soot will ask what an infernal priest is and why the town is overrun with them.

"The priest who came to your mother's house was no devout priest," Talus explains through Paphos. "Rather than following the Lord Almighty, as he claims to, he actually worships darker powers, perhaps even Satan himself. He hides himself among the priesthood, however, enjoying the security and power that position brings him." The magus shakes his head. "Suffice it to say that he is a very bad man."

"As for the city being overrun with such priests, well, I think Paphos overstated things. We know of no other false priests. But even one is too many - certainly one who kept dogging our footsteps throughout the city."
