Wow, botching a prayer sucks in Mythic Europe!
It actually looked pretty good to me. My Latin is a bit rusty, but I could follow most of it.
Did he botch, or did he roll a 0 but didn't botch? If he botched, then his attack roll would be a total of 0, per "Combat Botches" on p. 171. (Sorry, just wanted to clarify.)
It botched, by more than one botch die, thus being disabled for a round in addition to having an attk of 0.
For some reason there seems to be an unusually high tendency to botch on both sides when fighting this thing....
It's the faerie aura.
Some things don't add up.
How is it that with an Attack Advantage of 4 a Medium wound is struck, but with an Advantage of 20 (or 26 if I may spend Confidence) only a Heavy wound is struck? How large is this beast?
And Phellipe did not Invoke God's direct aid. He just uttered prayers, a bit of roleplaying fluff. In fact, looking up the rules in RoP Divine, he is inelegible. He's a Grog and has not a confidence point to spend. Which also implied that invocation is a deliberate player act, not an incidental an SG should seize upon.
So there should be no roll, but on the flip side he cannot invoke direct Divune aid ever (unless he gains Confidence).
Mind you, I am okay with going another round with the Beast and the strategy seems obvious. SG Fiat and/or powers I don't know about can work wonders.
Plus Phelippe is not loosing anything he had in the first place.
So nevermind
Not that I was invoking God's aid - you're right, it was just fluff - does my Faith point (Phelippe has a Relic) count as allowing me to do it in the future?
The beast is size 3
Yes, you can call for divine aid with faith from a relic. I was jumping on a call for divine aid hoping it would give a bonus, but you are right, he should indicate using the faith point. given the formula however, you need to roll 9 or higher to succeed...
The first round I forgot to apply the beast's soak of 12, it should have been light wounds. Not that it matters, since the beast ignores any wound under incapacitating.
Cool.I did not know you could spend Fith Points from Relics. Do they recharge?
As for the beast, I do apologize for tracking the math. In the interest of reducing risks tothe second tem, I was trying to find tht "sweet spot" that can end this fight quickly. I think I found it 8)
Will finda hot spotsometime today and post some rolls.
According to the main rule book (p. 189, first column, in the section entitled "True Faith"), a character "regains all his Faith Points" at the next dawn, and may regain them sooner if God so wishes."
Most excellent.
Change of Strategy. Will use the Leadership bonus for Attack instead of Defense, and spend Fatigue once again (taking us down to -1 the next round).
Defense base +13, die roll of 1D10=3, total Defense of 16
Attack Base +15, Leadership Bonus +12, Fatigue +7, Attack roll: 1D10=3, total 34
ggrrr...
37 with one Confidence point, or 40 if I spend two. Also willing to spend Fortune.
The Beast forfeited attack this round,
Def rolled 0 no botch, def total of 10,
dmg 11, soak 12 gives base 23, with 1 confidence point the beast is incapacitated, it would take a second confidence point and 2 fortune points for it to be dead from the blows.
I spend Confidence point to Incpacitte the monster. Then, once immobilized, we finish it off.
Petrus waits outside the cavern, listening to what goes on inside, ready to defend Fleur should the creature get out. When he hears the last wail, he relaxes a bit. But he still keeps his guard up, not knowing what this odd place has to threaten them.
As the creature lies incapacitated it cries out "Good sir knight you have defeated me fairly, and let me offer this plea in exchange for my life- I will depart this place and be removed to the place of your choosing, where I shall serve as a loyal guard, allowing access to those you designate, and terrifying or consuming those you do not. I offer you as well my treasure, accumulated here over the past 400 years if you will but let me live."
Roberto holds his hand up to stay the execution.
[color=red]You speak! Amazing.
Know ye monster, I am no knight. I am an Hermetic Magus. I came here with the purpose of eliminating a threat to those whom I am sworn to protect. And you are fortunate, for I am not so heartless as to slay one that pleads for their life. Not always. Or not today anyway.
Yeah, I'm kinda feeling wishy washy about it. I will need a guarentee. Your sworn oath and an Arcane Connection.
The true reason you are lucky, monster, is that I have exactly in mind how to employ your oath of guard duty.
The beast bleeds into a piece of cloth someone has about them. "There is your arcane connection, I do swear that I will serve faithfully as your guard in the place you designate, and will further open myself up to transformation by any artist or craftsman you designate in order to ensure my suitability to the position."
Roberto pockets the cloth. "[color=red]And I want that bit of claw that flew off during the fight.
As for opening yourself up foir transformation by an artist, I am not sure what that means. I don't know any artists."
Cidito pipes up "{color=orange]You know Carlos."
"[color=red]He's not an artist. He's a soldier and a womanizer"
"[color=blue]Hey!" Carlos exclaims. [color=blue]I am musician! And a love artist."
"[color=red]You are a mediocre guitar player and a tiresome singer. But the ladies do like your music.
Okay Fine. I know an artist. But what do you mean by all of that monster/"
BTW, Roberto's actual plan for the Beast depends on several unresolved factors that, at this point in time in game would be known, but metagame are as of yet unknown. That is the issue with multiple time-scattered story threads.
One thought would to have it serve as a guardian for Princess Soteria. Depending on how the story of "The Visitor" works out.
Another idea, perhaps better, would to make the beast the guardian of the Sa Dragonera vis pool.
"[color=red]Someone get me Fleur in here. I need her advice."
Fleur enters with Felicia trotting along beside her. "I see you have things well in hand."
