Winter Drake Hunt (Winter 1230)

Warhammer: Init +2, Atk +20, Def +14, Dmg +21
Size: +3
Soak: +14

BoB's Initiative roll is 1d10=4, +2, = 6
So I think the Brute still has it, have to scroll back and check
BoB's attack roll : 1d10=7, +20, = 27
BoB's Defense roll: 1d10=1, followed by 1d10=9, =18, +14, =32
Brute's Atk of 21 versus BoB's Def of 32, then BoB's Atk of 27 versus the Brute's Def of 25
The Brute swings at BoB with mighty fury, but the ogre chief artfully dodges and takes a step back as the Brute shatters the ground he stood on. Then BoB swings his hammer down, barely grazing his bony shoulder...
Atvantage 2, + Dmg 21, = 23, versus Soak +16, equals an applied Damage of 7
Light Wound

BoB laughs. Heh... That all ypu got? You're supposed to be famous.

AAAAARHHHH! Shrieks the brute as he is wounded.
I WiLL TeAr YoU!!!

His base init is 6 (on p40), so he goes after Bob.

Going with the claws:
Init 6
Atk 1d10=7 + 16 + 2 - 1= 24
Dfn 1d10=6 + 16 -2 - 1 = 19
Damage +12

Esteban says to Vibria, once she is decent: "You really didn't want the drake to attack old Guilio Ghules. Why was that?"

Bob presses the attack
Attack 1d10=8 + 20 = 28
Defense 1d10=9 + 14 = 23

BOOM! You both take a hit.
I believe Soak is 16 when Berzerk? BoB AA 0f 8 + Dmg +21 = 29, - Soak +16 = 13
Medium Wound
Brute AA 1 + Dmg 12 = 14, - soak of +14
A scratch that inflicts no injury.

I think it is time for the Brute to kick it up a notch, using Reserves of Strength &/or Fury, or perhaps dissolving and reconstituting, activating Endurance of the Berzerkers, &/or switching to his more devestating Pummle attack.

Mind you, BoB has an unfair advantage. He is armed and armoured. The Brute has just barely enough comprehension to understand that disarming BoB will even the odds...

((I'm not sure how she would tell just by casting a spell on it. And her CT with Robes Proof Against the Cold is 23 + die roll of 7 = 30 +/- Aura modifier. No Penetration, so her Penetration (if necessary) would be her CT-10.

"I didn't expect him to burn my clothes off," Vibria says, sounding a little embarrassed about it.

"And....I don't know, but it just seemed wrong somehow. Like, if we interfered in el Guilio's fight, he would turn on us afterward. I don't know why, it was just a feeling I had."

Carmen wedges her way between Estaban and Vibria hussy. I had the same intuition as well. I think Guilio appeared because the hag attacked me when I offered them a truce. Then the ogres attacked him, so he defends himself. If they let him alone, I think he would disappear. But it seems that this boss ogre fella has got Guilio on the ropes here.
And your cousin Venkath hussy, he wasn't charging in to help Guilio. He wated to attack Guilio while he saw an advantage. That's what started this whole long, drawn out mess to begin with...

end flashback<
ken
If Guilio beats BoB, the ogre clan is shattered and the drakes can again keep them in line against mundanes. Order is restored. Guilio will see that I am safe, "rescued" by him, and his story is resolved.

Yes. 14 + 2.

Yes, I was especially waiting for him to be more wounded and losing to use his Second Wind. Dramatic fight and all that

Yes, and since he is berserk, I don't play him as reasonning much, just trying to hurt.

The brute recoils before BoB's relentless assault, blood flowing from the wounds he's received. As he staggers, it appears that he is clearly outmatched, and it seems it's only a question of time before he succumbs to his opponent.
But he raises his Head, eyes flaring, and, as he shouts SMASH YOU!!!, his strength doesn't seem diminished in any fashion.

His action for this round: Activating Second Wind for 1 might.
Should BoB attack while he does so, he need a defense roll, it is 1d10=9 + 16 - 2 (berserk) = 23.

His next round, he'll be even madder, Fury being activated by his inability to crush his ennemy, and he'll also use Reserves of strength, raising his arms high before bringing them on BoB.
Init: 4
Atk: 1d10=1 woot!, 1d10=6 + 15 + 2 (berserk) – 1 (fury) - 0 (wounds negated) = +28
Dfn: 1d10=2… + 8 – 2 (berserk) – 1 (fury) = 7. Will this last attack see the end of the Brute?
Dmg: + 16 + 3 (fury) + 3 (reserves of strength) = +22

Bob makes an attack as the Brute rages and gets his Second Wind & Reserves 0f Strength
Attack 1d10=2 +20 = 22,versus a Defense of 23
The Brute knocks BoB back with a fling of his arms.
New round, BoB still has initiative, moves in for another attack...
1d10=10
one botch die
1d10=9
No Botch, roll of 0 + atk 20 = 20, - def 7 = 13, + dmg 21 = 34, - soak 16 = 18
Heavy Wound. BoB's warhammer comes smashing down alongside Guilio's head, cracking one of his horns off and shattering some bones in his shoulder.
But the Brute doesn't feel a thing...

Attack of 28 versus BoB's Defense of (14 + BBCode1d10=2) = 12, + dmg 22 =34, - Soak 14 = 20
Heavy Wound. And he does feel it. -4 penalty (Enduring Constitution).
BoB is knocked with such force that his impact into the ground behind him shatters earth and stone.
He lays there, umoving...
The Big Boss has a trick of his own, a Ritual Power that lets him heal wounds. It will cost him 3 points of might and subtract 3 from his initiative, so he is playing possum while using the power and will roll defense if the Brute attacks him. Otherwise he waits for an opportunity to ambush him...
Esteban thinks, the last thing we need at a time like this is for a grog to jump the gun and attack the wrong target. "Men of Andorra! Hold fast! Do not attack! Wait for my command! Hold Fast!" Remember, his command presence is still magically enhanced.

The grogs, who have been gawking at Vibria, are suddenly brought to attention bt Estaban's commanding shouts.
Yes sir, Certainly,Hurumphhh...Of course....

The Brute is in full-on Berserk mode by now, and doesn't stop, pounding relentlessly at his ennemy*.

Pummel attack
Init: 4
Atk: 1d10=9 + 15 + 2 (berserk) – 1 (fury) - 0 (wounds negated) = +25
Dfn: 1d10=10.... + 8 – 2 (berserk) – 1 (fury) = 5.
Rolling a few botch dices... 1d10=6, 1d10=10, 1d10=4, 1d10=5, 1d10=8: If there are 2-5 botch dices, his defense is 0 instead of 5. Really, Pummel sucks at defense, even the rolls agree
Dmg: + 16 + 3 (fury)** = 19
Soak +16

*
that, and his Second Wind won't last forever
** He has used up his Reserves of Strength

BoB gets no Attack this round, as he is busy
activating his own powers to regenerate
.
So the Brute does not need to make a Defense roll, and there is only one botch die anyway (until you are hurt and can feel it), so no worries just yet.
Just the Brute's Attack versus BoB's Defense...
1d10=10
meep
I will call it two botch dice. He is injured and he is down...
1d10=1, 1d10=6
No botch, dice roll 0
+14, -4 Wound Penalty*, -6 for knocked down prone, = Defense 4, against an Attack of 25, equals an Attack Advantage of 21, + 19 = Damage 40! :exclamation:
minus Soak 14, = 26
INCAPACITATED!!!!
woot!

*
Enduring Constitution lowers the penalty by 1, and he has not regenerated yet because the slow speed of the ritual power knocks his Init below yours.
"Flawless victory," Vibria's voice says from by Vulcanus's elbow. She then practically holds her breath in anticipation to see what becomes of el Gulio.

Not quite flawless. Gulio took some serious lumps. However, the Brute is not quite "mortal". Not dead which eternal lie, with strange eons death may die.
And he is in a bezerk rage exploding with Fury. He needs to make a roll to control himself or start attacking other ogres. If he botches...

"I commend you on your victory, great warrior," Vulcanus calls out towards El Ghulio. "If the Brute is a demon, though, its infernal essence must be extinguished. I can see to this, if you have no objections."

If there are no obvious objections, he will activate the DEO effect in his blade (level 5, 36 Penetration) and See What Happens.

yikes!
Apromor's Test of Negative Response has no discernable effect. Meaning that DeO has no effect. No telling if it Penetrated or not (is there?), but it most likely did (SG's honor, not Infernal).
but
The Brute is able to sense magic, and can tell he has been targeted. And he is in the grip of a Berzerk Fury. So grabs the incapacitated body of BoB and hurls him at you as he shouts SMASH YOU!!!.

Ogres do not make very good projectiles, so he falls short by a few dozen paces.

Phew, that was a close one, even if the Brute doesn't realize it himself.

Yet, you pose a very good question... Now that there's no reason for it, he'll try to calm himself.
1d10=2 + Per 1 - Angry 2 - 1 (Fury) = 00
1d10=9 + Per 1 - Angry 2 - 1 (Fury) = 07
He's gonna calm in 2 rounds.

In short?
The Brute pounds a little more on BoB's body, before towering hover him.
BRUTE IS THE STRONGEST ONE THERE IS!!!

???
Do you intend to cast DEO on the Brute or BoB? This isn't clear to me. If on the Brute, I agree with Marko, and thus, he won't try to calm himself.

Little man attack Brute with puny magics. But the Brute is strongest! Brute will SMASH!

(I realize that the Brute is not unlike Kratos*: Always angry, always shouting)

 • When he isn't depressed and suicidal, that is

Uhh, Vulc targetted the Ogre Brute. Who, by nature of being incapacitated, can't throw himself anywhere. Vulc did NOT attack El Ghulio.

Ah, therein lies the confusion. Gulio is also known as The Brute. The incapacitated ogre is BoB (Big ogre Boss, or just Big Boss).
So no hostile reaction after all. The Brute pounds on the incapacitated ogre a few more times, then hurls his body some other direction. Then he calms down. Then, probably, he will just fade away.
No, wait.
Carmen asks Vulcanus to escort her and approaches the Brute
Don Gulio Ghules. You are no mere brute, you are a noble hero. I thank you for rescuing us, saving me from the attacks of that hag. Know that henceforth, you shall ever be considered a friend to the Covenant of Andorra.

The Brute, now a lot smaller than he was before, looks down on carmen. He looks weary, his wounds quite apparent by now.

Brute don't like bad men. Bad men hurt pretty lady. Brute hurt bad men. Brute is happy pretty lady not hurt. Pretty lady is nice. Brute likes pretty lady. Now, Brute is tired. Brute wants to be alone.
