1260.4 - Council meeting

Damasus nods "I don't know what's the deal and this isn't probably my prerogative but surely being aware of what's legitimately inside the aegis could help everyone making better decision if a creature pops up into the covenant."

Zoltan looks confused at Damasus's response. "I'm sorry sodalis, you must not have been informed. I am here at the Tremere's request to study and catalog the fae. Doing so may require me to bring in fae to be researched. And what you said is exactly correct, you and all within the Oppida should be made aware of any fae I bring in, and thus I do so...will do so. The only fae I have brought in thus far are Juriska and the ones I can summon with my magic. But when I do bring in a fae I will make sure all are amply warned, and that is also why I'm making the warding spells and transcribing them. I believe Arktos should and perhaps already is under similar requirements, since he works in a similar capacity, only with magical beasts rather than fae." he looks to Laterala. "Is this correct? Do we need the wording to be more carefully stipulated?"

Damasus smiles at Zoltan, satisfied not to be the only one to misunderstand. "I think this is a misunderstanding, I simply agree with you. I was sharing my opinion that being informed about magical creature inside the aegis is equally important"

Laterala looks to Arktos. If we go with the smaller Aegis, that lab will be outside the boundary.

Yes. If the others prefer the smaller Aegis, I want a lab within the compound. Although this would complicate my work somewhat, I cannot risk working outside an Aegis. However, as it seems there are no objections to my getting the larger lab and bringing in creatures, one at a time and with due notice, I will vote for the larger Aegis and claim the larger lab if we decide my way.

"With help," Ankoydes says, "can you cast an Aegis of the 6th Magnitude around both the compound and the spring? I am able to contribute three Magnitudes through Wizard's Communion."

Ankoydes, who, while not exactly falling asleep, had been flying his eyelids at half-staff for a couple of minutes, snaps awake. "Disappeared? How, disappeared?"

"I have wandered through the Library, and see that we have a laboratory text for an Aegis that offers eight magnitudes of protection. If I would be allowed to study either Omniferum or Xenophon's commentary on Moderatrix this season, then I would be able to invent that powerful an Aegis." (I did the math, and I'm one point short inventing a Level 40 Aegis from a lab text. Don't really feel like Experimenting.)

(And this is how ADD/OCD I am...I went to check to see what level of Aegis text we have, saw that the we didn't have a library on the wiki, and killed the better part of an hour fixing it.)

And if the animals have no desire to be...'tamed'?" Ankoydes asks. Arktos may know that this is not a new concern of his, as he had always questioned the 'necessity' of taming wild magical animals against their will.

"Not to mention, it would make our job of protecting everyone easier if we were aware of any potential threats in our cov...in our oppidum."

Arktos waves his hand dismissively.

Does the serf desire the corvée, the lord a glorious death, the hedge wizard a voting sigil? Yet it is so, and you know it. In bondage we are not wild but prosperous.

Although the Aegis surely infringes on the wild's desire to take back this place, l, too, can learn an eighth-magnitude version if need be.

If you're willing to learn it I'll pass my turn. 8th magnitude seems excessive to me, the great amount of vis pawns involved and the increase in the risks they create makes spending many seasons mastering it almost mandatory and if the spell fails the recasting of a second is prohibitive.

"I think an 8th magnitude aegis is excessive. We likely don't need one that powerful, and could it be cast effectively and without risk? If so...and if the Tribunal is paying from it, I don't want it coming from our allotment of vis, then maybe. Otherwise either the 6th or 4th magnitude should be enough. Circumstances may change that, but for right now I think we're fine with the proposed already. Has a vote been tallied? Let us move this along."

Not this year. I would have to rework my 6th magnitude Ritual to add the size needed encompass the spring.

Ankoydes, who, while not exactly falling asleep, had been flying his eyelids at half-staff for a couple of minutes, snaps awake. "Disappeared? How, disappeared?"

It is not known yet. She insisted on flying there. For all I know she flew out over the Mediterranean.

If there is no more discussion, lets vote. I have heard Zoltan vote for the smaller Aegis and Arktos for the larger.

My vote goes for the larger Aegis

"As does mine," Ankoydes says as he stifles a yawn.

"If we have a magus occupying the outlying lab, then we must have an Aegis to cover it. I don't consider this to be a negotiable point. We are technically a research covenant, and if someone needs that lab for their research, then we do it. If my vote is necessary, then I vote for the larger Aegis."

It is settled then. I shall cast the Magnitude 4 Aegis around the compound and the hot spring. I will then work on a stronger version for the same size and put a lab text in the Library.

"Thank you. And I will endeavor to be able to invent the new Aegis when the lab text is ready. I have a strength in wards."

Zoltan sighs and seems a bit disappointed, but the results of the vote were not all that surprising.

"Very well. Dogs will still not be tolerated. Now...regarding the spells I'm working on. I shall create a total of five spells of 4th magnitude, one for each of the realms commonly associated with the lands, and one made in general using Vim. They shall also be transcribed for ease of learning. I have a question to ask this Oppidum and the same question to Laterala as our Hostess with the Tremere. Would there be an interest in paying to have the texts converted into Tablets with the proper power so they can work on all fae up to their Magnitude?"

Laterala ponders this for a moment.

No. I think the lab text for each spell is sufficient.

Is there any other business before we begin the casting of the Aegis?

"Yes. We have a duty to shore up our vis supply. Each of us should be responsible for finding a supply or multiple supplies of at least 5 pawns in the coming year.

Good point. We do have three sites that have either produced vis in the past or need to be explored noted from the last Oppidum.

She turns to her apprentice, Violeta. Hand me the letter from Minerva

After a bit of fumbling and paper shuffling, Violeta finds a small scroll and hands it to Laterala. She glances at it and mumbles something as she reads through it quickly.

Ah. Here we are.

Every year on the Spring equinox, aquam vis forms at the bottom of Gyogy-To. The previous oppidum had a bottle they sunk into the lake and collect it. They collected 4 pawns of vis with this method.

About half way up the Lake Balaton, on the north shore, there is a cove that is partially flooded. It was referred to as the Lake Cave. The notes say it was possible to take a small boat in.

Csodabogyós-barlang or the Cave with the Miraculous Berries. In the mountains on the north side of Lake Balaton, close to Hèviz, is a large winding cave. It has a great number of berry bushes growing outside the entrance. It was believed that the berries would provide a source of Herbam vis but no record of the method has been found. The cave was somewhat explored. It is assumed that a dangerous creature lives here as Petilia ex Guernicus and all of her grogs were lost exploring it.

"Five pawns each is doable, we'll have to define our priorities though. If I'm responsible for dealing with mundane my priority is to learn their language so I can work on my own, but if i'm suppose to increase the vis supply at the same time I'll have to slow down my learning.

I'd much rather work in pairs if exploring is needed, even if I can manage on my own, I'm probably better at investigation and providing support than at taking down foes...At least without proper preparation" he smiles slyly and adds " but otherwise I can investigate the berries in my lab or work on improving the somewhat crude method of vis collecting from the Gyogy-To."
