Chapter 8: The Bone Merchant

In eagle form, Iodar sees a giant, humanoid shape under the water. It is about 400M in front of the ship. Where it is at the water is starting to swirl.
(The roll was a 9 but I seemed to have lost the link).

The link in my sig seems to work.

1d10=4

Target is a 9.

The boat drops into the water. Johan is quickly able to gain control of the boat. It is now just a very rough ride as you have to go up and over 7m swells.

Well, today the damn thing works . The past three days I would get an error page.
But I am fine with the results. We sail onward!

Wait a minute...
a roll of 4, plus Int +2, plus Concentration 2 (spells), equals exactly 9.
Not that I am squirming, jut pointing out the maths

4+2+2 = 8

his spells specialisation adds +1....

Kal

missed that. The boat is still flying. waves are getting bigger.

Iolar quickly skims over to the ship and announces what she has seen . Then she flies back towards where she saw the being beneath the sea and calls out to it trying to attract its attention

Diodorus and Aelianus just hang onto the nearst object man mutter prays to Neptune to keep them safe.

((After a fine vacation with a 2 year old, I'm back. I'll see if I can get some rest at work from my vacation))

When we last left our intrepid band, the Magi and Sir Richard were on the covenant's ship crossing the English Channel. They had run into some hostile weather that is unnatural. From her vantage in the sky, Iodar can see that it is localized on them and see a large humanoid shape under the water that seems to be causing the problem.

The ship is currently flying 3M over the water but large waves are already starting to rock the boat. Larger waves seem to be forming ahead. Sir Richard is helping to steady Roberto from the tossing waves ( having realized that Roberto could drop them into the water if he fails).

The giant figure does not seem to notice Iodar or is ignoring her.

Halvard is waving and calling for Iodar to come to him.

Clarifying the figue Iolar can see is a spirit seen with second sight and not a flesh and blood figure correct?

you can easily assume it is not human.

The figure is underwater so it is not clear but if it were flesh and blood it would be giant ( size +7).

Roberto is not speaking, because he is concentrating on the awesome amazing spell he managed to spont (which plans on inventing as a Formulaic, as he does with all of his successful sponts).

He is as silent as stone, arms spread wide as if pantomiming that he is carrying and guiding the ship. The fierce winds cause his hair to whip against his face and his cape to flutter wildly in the wind. The furious waves reach up to slap against the ship, the salty sea spray burning his eyes.

He girds his mind (making a successful concentration roll as previously noted), thinking only of magic. His silent thoughts to himself: “[color=blue]Rego Herbam, I Control Wood. This boat is in my hands, and I carry it as I will…”. He wonders if it is possible to lift the ship up higher…

(OOC: That would be Reckless for certain! A flying ship is cool and all, but at a Duration of Concentration, it is very dangerous. If you loose concentration on a personal flight spell, you have some opportunity to catch yourself and recast the spell or fast cast some safety measure. A whole ship starts falling, it turns over and about, you might be able to save it, but you will certainly cause some damage and drop a few crew men over.

So no, Roberto is not going to take the ship into the air. As per the rules for Personality Flaws, you may decide that I have to spend a point of Confidence or make a roll of some kind. But I Markoko, as an old school gamer and a veteran of many silly disasters that befall adventurers, know that this is to dangerous. I only mention it because, as I was writing from Roberto’s point of view and getting into his state of mind, it did pose a temptation. I started to write that this is what I was doing, then thought about how disastrous it could end up. This, I think I should have to spend a point of Confidence to resist the urge for extreme thrill seeking.

Where am I at for Confidence? I know I had 6, I spent 4 in Andrew’s adventure and I know I am due many several points as my adventure reward. Call that U for Unknown. Thus, I started this adventure with U+2 points of Confidence, I spent two on the spont spell, spent one to resist taking the ship up flying, which leaves me at U-1 points of Confidence. U = whatever Andrew awards me for killing some of the minions of the witch, shredding her with flame, and escaping from the fray after a nearly crippling blow. I think that is worth at least three points, if not more. Recall that I successfully hogged all the glory, and I think I deserve many several points of House Flambeau acclaim

But anyway, Andrew, I need accounting. What does U-1 equal?

you spent 2 for the flying boat spell.

Which puts me at U+0. I need to find U

Does Magic Lore or Faerie Lore help identify the giant? Skill 1 in both of them and Int +2

Unless She can identify the creature Iolar can't think of anything to do , with the giant beneath the water she can't effectively target it with any spells or speak with it (none of her formulaic spells seem useful anyway) and it's might would most liekly defeat any spontaneous spells particulary as any useful ones are going to be high level so I am just going to watch . If it sinks the boat I will see what I can do to rescue survivors.

Roberto cam have 4 confidence for the events in Greece. I have no ide aif that i generous or stingy

okay, I started with 6, spent 4 in Greece, gained 4 in Greece, spent two on the spont spell, and 1 to keep myself from flying the ship into the sky...
That leaves me at 3 points currently left then

I'm powerless against this thing, we need to do something!!

Halvard to Iodar

If I cast parting of the waves on you, do you think you could fly low enough to part the waves before they hit the ship?

So Wirth is on the ship. Is Clara and your son? Kilica?

I should be able to, give it a try
