Chapter 9: The Man with the Golden Scythe

If you don’t mind I am on my way to my studio. I have a few things that I need to return to the studio. I am a member of the confraternity of Balento. Aelianus walks towards the stairs up to his studio. If you wish please follow there is still some time to the dinner.

Alessio will follow him up until his sanctum marker (I dont know if his studio is within his sanctum or not?)

Aelianus studio is outsde his sanctum. This is where he show off his magical items to potential buyers. The room is guarded by a heavy oak door with a huge lock. Aelianus open the door and let Alessio in.

Inside the chamber speaks the word “Light” and the chamber is illuminated. The light emits from a wooden sphere that hangs from the ceiling.

Amongst the items that are displayed Alessio can se a bowl with mythological patterns, a horse rein and a wand rack. Aelianus place three wands in the wand rack. Near the door there is a few well crafted chairs and a table. On the table there is a book. The walls are covered with well crafted fabrics and wall paintings. Every motive seems to be inspired of roman myth.

I specialises in wand making even though I have made a few other items, my magical speciality is Creo Ignem. A short pause. Now how have you fared in the Normandy tribunal? The magi of the tribunal are quite prone to use force to achieve their goals. I had some trouble when I was here alone to fend for my interests and resources. Now what are you impression of this tribunal so far?

Alessio looks suitable impressed with the studio.

Of the tirbunal? To be honest, I have not seen as much of the tribunal as I would have prehaps liked. Many of the covenants nearer to the Rhine and Rome tribunals had heard of what transpired, so were not particularly welcoming. And there are fewer cities here than I am acustomed too. But I have found the further I travel from Rome, the less my past hinders me.

Just make sure that you learn a few combat spells when you move between the covenants here. It is safer that way. After all there is more than just mere mundane thugs that prowl the less populated areas. Now we shall not speak more of such. I am sure that you can take care of your self in case you would need to. A short pause. I think that we should move to the council hall our servants must have brought forth something to eat. Aelianus moves through the studio and seems to expect Alessio to follow. I am sorry if I am a bit too curious but what school of magical combat do you favour? Personally I favour creo ignem as I mentioned.

Alessio will walk and talk

I use a little minor Creo Ignem, together with basic Rego Imagniem to protect myself, though my former sodales disapproaved of imagniem for defence, they always said it confused the grogs too much...though given the chance, I favor mentem to avoid combat all together.

Though, a simple Rego Corpus allowed me to run that fowl pirate ship aground...

Aelianus replies. I also use imaginem for defence. It works well when one fights mundane threats. I agree on the avoiding combat part but at times one can’t avoid and that is sadly a bit too common in this tribunal. He pauses to lock the door to the studio once the magi have left the room. You know this is the covenant of my master, he has passed onto twilight some years ago. Now please tell me how did you come to decide to apply for membership here? We are not the most famous of covenant, even if it is really old.

It was while on the road. I was spending the evening with a young Red Cap. I shared my stories with her, and she recommanded Novus Mane. She said you might not be as relucant to accept me as other covenants of the tribunal....

Sorry I keep having a mental vision of Chickens in Pirate hats...
(Although someone who mispells as many things as I do should be careful about laughing at someone else)

Yeah, sorry about my spelling, but I'm really bad at it....dsylexia sucks.....

OOC: Some of us are not native English speakers so spelling errors and strange grammars is not that big issue (I would not notice some of them). I think that I give you my fair share of such. Thankfully my word processor keeps me from making too blatant spelling errors.

Yes you are right we have been keen to accept new members. I was alone here for awhile. But now I think it is time too eat and have our official council meeting where you have to apply for membership. Aelianus walks into the council chamber and takes his throne like seat at the table. He looks around to see if his fellow magi has arrived. Servants help Alessio to the guest seat.

Roberto is already chowing down on appetizers

Iolar arrives after the rest of the magi have arrived taking a seat near the window , and eating a few delicasies from the meal having already eaten as an Eagle. She Looks curiosly at Alessio and waits for the meeting to start.
Wirth and Havlard have also arrived at the meeting

Welcome soldaes. Aelianus pause and Diodorus walks into the covenant council chamber. As Aelianus continues to speak Diodorus walks to the council table, jumps up upon the table and walks towards Alessio. He stops for a moment and stares at Alessio then he walks to his platter at the table. We have a fellow magus here who applies for membership in our covenant. Now please introduce yourself to the council and tell us why you wish to stay here. Then we can ask questions. Take something to eat if you are hungry.

Alessio seems relaxed, but wont begin eating, as it would be rude to talk with his mouth full

Thank you your such kind hospitality. I am Alessio Calitori, of House Jerbiton. I have been on the road for several years now, after a foolish mistake cost me my home. The tribunal of my home, Rome, held me accountable for interfering with the mundanes of Venice, which though unintentional, I was gulity of. Instead of marching me, they exiled me from the tribunal. Since then, I have travelled, slowly, as without my former covenant, silver has been a rarity - after my magic caused me such ills, I have tried to avoid using it to make my travelling more... comfortable...

From Rome I travelled to the Greater Alps, then into the Rhine and now here. I have sort a new covenant to call home, a place where I can make efforts to redeem my mistakes in the eyes of my sodales. It was a young Red Cap that told me that your own covenant was seeking more members, so here I am.

Roberto washes down his food with wine, then speaks
[color=red]So you seek a new home, eh? Do you feel it is a right or a privilege? What do you feel your duties to a covenant are, and what do you feel it owes you in return? Most, importantly, what are you willing to do to defend the covenant? Are you willing to put your life on the line?

Halvard has said very little during the dinner but listens attentively to Alessio's tale. At Roberto's words he chuckles.

I believe that is covered in the oath Roberto. Or do you wish him to swear an oath to more than we did when we joined?

Roberto laughs in return.
[color=red]Point made old friend. Allow me to pursue a simpler line of questioning
Alessio, what is it you seek from a covenant, as per your hopes and expectations; and what sort of value do you bring to the table? What are your qualities, your virtues?

Halvard nods at Roberto's question.

And I would like to hear what you did in Venice in more detail. And the why is more important then the how.

Hm.....how to put this......before these past couple of years on the road, I had far less cares. I enjoyed wine, women and song. I was a magus of Rellentai, but I took every opportunity to say in Venice. I spent most evenings in the company of the women of Venice, from barmades to lady's of the Doge's court. Evenutally, I came to know two women particulary well...the Lady Zani, wife of the doge Pietro Zani, and their daughter Ms Serafina...

However, my duties for Rellentai required that I return to the covenant proper. It was short notice, one of my sodales arriving one morning and expecting me to leave before the next dawn. But I wanted to see both of the Ladies before I left, but of course could not. Neither knew I was spending time with the other. So, being the fool I was, I used my magic to presaude them both to spend the evening with me...

Come the dawn, I was leaving Venice, riding west for Naples. The summer passed slowly at the covenant, but come the begninning of the autumn, my duties complete, I eagerly returned to Venice. I had not been back more than a day before city guards tried to arrest me. I didnt know why, but after the second attempt, I decided that I would leave Venice and find out why I was wanted from afar. But I hadnt got more than two days from Venice when Verox of Flambeau and Magvillus appeared and surrounded me in a ring of raging fire.

I was taken to Magvillus, where I was charged and tried for interefering with the mundanes of Venice. It seems my magics had gone on far longer than merely to the dawn, and both women had confessed their undying love for me when the dodge returned from Constantinoples later than month. I somehow managed to convence the tribunal it was an accident, so instead of marching me, they axiled me from the Rome Tribunal.

Since then, I have had the sobering experience of being on the road, without a covenant, a home, for nearly two years. The events of Venice seemed to travel faster than me, and many covenants turned me as soon as the realised who I was.

Alessio seems very sober recalling all this...

As to what I seek. I seek a home, a place where I can finally stop wandering. A place where I might oneday be able to prove that I have value to the Order, instead of being just an embaressment...

As to what I offer. I have a talent for writing. My former paren always said it was my greastest gift, but I ignored it in favor of a pleasent evening in the company of women. I should have listened to him. Given the opportunity, I would scribe tractata, for I am no master of the Arts to attempt a summa.

As to defedning the covenant. I am no warrior magus, I will not lie. But I can dissaude people before events turn to violence, but if not, I can confuse peoples mind or use simple creo ignem.

Alessio will remain quite, and take a small sip from the his wine.
