Petrus
Petrus is a decent chirurgeon. but predictions of the inevitability of gangrene, or cries of despair at the fragility of his patients' constitutions meant that few injured grogs at his Theban covenant relished his care. Being told your wound will inevitably prove fatal has a certain dispiriting effect. He's also now beginning to show his age, so his covenant seized the opportunity represented by Nova Castra to declare that such a dangerous expedition clearly needed a highly experienced chirurgeon, and not to worry, they were sure his apprentice would manage back home. Feeling (fairly accurately), that he'd been packed off to get rid of him, he is not Nova Castra's most cheerful custos.

Five years ago, Leon was the subject of a badly botched Mentem spell. As a result, all knowledge of his actual life was replaced by the memory of a catfish he had recently eaten -- including the memory of that fish's capture and gutting. Waking up surrounded by a cadre of wizards in the middle of a fight with a demonic beast, he fervently hopes that one of the wizards transformed him into a warrior in order to fight the demon (otherwise, he reasons, the demon conjured him, which means he's a Bad Guy).
Metapontium, the German-based covenant near Hamburg, to whom he originally belonged briefly tried to repair his memory, and then gave up on him. Patrick took pity on him, and claimed him as his shield grog ("Mo' like he's mah backup," Patrick insists). Patrick never seems to tire of trying to prove to Leon through disputatio that he is a man.

Rouhan & Elham Qazvini
This young couple just got married and are madly in love with their lifelong true love. Nothing can permanently separate them and they share an incredibly strong bond. Both have a love for creating beautiful things and are incredibly loyal to Myron after his promise to take them to a place where they can create wonderful art in peace and safety. Safety is important as Rouhan never fights. Elham is also caring and compassionate, although she will hold her ground to defend one she loves. Rouhan is a skilled glassblower who always embellishes his creations with some sort of ornamentation. Elham is a skilled gardener and does wonders with flowers. She also communes with animals, especially birds. They married in the Muslim lands of Levant, where Elham is from. Rouhan is originally from Persia. They have been travelling with Myron and Orestes and have picked up a minimal amount of Greek although they do not speak Latin.

Sophia - Housemaid
Sophia is an an experienced maid, if never the quickest about her duties. Whilst she has never received any sort of formal education, over the years she has built up a considerable collection of knowledge on a wide variety of subjects, especially those relating to the myths, legends and creatures of her homeland. Her age is difficult to estimate, but looks to be in her mid thirties; anyone who had known her for a long time, however, would have been able to tell you that she has to be considerably older than that. Several years ago, she received a nasty wound to her leg, which festered. She made her way to the covenant of Epidauros, a place famous for its healing. The magi saved her from the infection, although her leg never fully recovered, and she remained in gratitude (and due to difficulty travelling).

Niketas - Hedyosmon Dowser
Niketas was born and raised in the subterranean covenant of Hedyosmos, the centre of the Terram cult in the Theban tribunal. As a boy, when not needed for his skills in finding new seams of precious ore for the miners, he spent much of his time running errands and messages through the labyrinthine passages. This ended in disaster when, one day, he took a passage that he should not have done, and was trapped by a rock fall. His disappearence was, eventually, noticed, and his cries tracked down. The experience of being trapped in the tiny space left its mark, however; previously fearless, he could no longer bear to be in any but the largest and most stable of the caverns that made up his home.

Simon
Simon was taken in by the Constantinople covenant that was used as a launching point for Nova Castra when he was small, after the goblins that had stolen him lost interest. In recent years, he had fallen into bad company in the remains of the once great city, and the covenant's autocrat could see that it was only a matter of time before he got himself into serious trouble. He therefore sent him to Nova Castra, where the opportunity for bad influence should be much lower.

Damianos
Damianos hails from the Tremere covenant of Gigas, where he was one of the junior members of the covenant staff. Ambitious, he sees his posting to Nova Castra as a chance to become the head of an establishment (i.e. stablemaster). Of course, Nova Castra doesn't even have a stables yet, but there's hardly a shortage of local horses.

Bogdan & Godzimir (grogs)
Background
Bogdan and Godzimir are twin brothers, who were trained as warriors in Kievan Rus. The two boisterous brothers are always cheerful, ready to pull a prank or tell a joke about each other. Bogdan is the natural leader of the pair, while Godzimir is more perceptive and quiet. For all of their light banter and jokes about each being dumber than rocks, they are far smarter than they look. Occasionally, and will sometime come to the magi with "a little almost-idea" (for they always say that neither of them is smart enough to have a full idea) that can solve some problem.

Ingrid, Ex-leper Farming Peasant
A servant, based on the Farming Peasant, Covenants pg 45, who tends the livestock.
Virtues: Peasant, Alluring to mundane animals, Alluring to magic beings, Enduring Constitution
Flaws: Afflicted Tongue, Lame [both due to leprosy], Weak-Willed
Personality : Lonely +3, Imperturbable +3, Loyal +3, Brave -2,
Ingrid was a child when the plague took her body and rendered questions of abstinence moot. It's rumored that a brigand tried to rape her on her journey to the leper colony, but when he tore her clothes off, the sight underneath made him lose his dinner. She has always been shy, and as the leprosy took her face (never a beauty to begin with) and swelled her tongue, she all but disappeared from human society completely -- craving for someone to reach out to her, but never willing to make the first step. The difference between her confidence when among animals versus her craven hunger for approval among humans is remarkable, and would be noticed quickly.
Before meeting Miklos, she did her best to keep the other lepers fed, though she avoided contact with them as much as possible (believing that even the other lepers must find her abhorrent to look upon). She prayed every night for their salvation as well as her own, and believes that God heard her voice (among many others) when granting Miklos his gift.
She dreams of somehow earning the favor of the magi, and receiving a magically perfect body as a reward for some (barely conceived) act of service. This is hardly likely, since even the slightest attention paid her turns her into a jibbering, clumsy fool. Still, this daydream, and the mistaken belief that the magi intend to study their leprosy and correct the damage done to them, combine to make her willing to forgive any slight by the magi, and interpret all their actions in the most optimistic of lights.
She does not recognize that her allure to animals is anything unusual (after all, nothing is special about her), and has never had an opportunity to discover her allure to magical beings before the start of the saga.
Spyridon is a happy man who loves his food, and it shows. Although he gets along with people, he doesn't speak very clearly, making it a little harder for him to make friends. That he has trouble with names doesn't help in either regard.
He was born in Constantinople in 1194. As a teenager he became a soldier. After some injuries he managed to get out of the army. He has worked a variety of fashions making food. He is very versatile, but versatility is rarely needed, and he was having trouble making a living after a few tough breaks. He found out about this job from a childhood friend in the Constantinople covenant. Having little to leave behind, he jumped on the opportunity.

Phocas, Mason and Autocrat
Appearance
Phocas is tall and thin with thick dark wavy hair, a trimmed beard and mustache, and a wry smile which implies deep knowledge. He walks and speaks with an "aristocratic" air, having been well educated formally at great expense to his family. He is always in the midst of at least three different tasks, and it is only his passion for his work and an organised mind which allow him to run so many concurrent tasks.
Background
Phocas was the first son of a growing family of builders. His wit and ambition was identified early in his childhood and he was given the best education his family could afford. After many years of church schooling and private study, combined with his families growing dependency for him to run aspects of the masonry business, he became a central figure in his families growing wealth and prosperity.
Unfortunately as his influence grew Phocas also grew to dislike his families ceaseless lust for excess and influence, their bickering and infighting, and so he resented the conflicts in his duties more and more with each passing year. Too many years of running his father and uncles businesses for little more than lip service to his own achievements made him unsatisfied. With time his temper also grew, and Phocas began to be frustrated by the incompetence within the family business which he could not change. Phocas loved the challenges running major mason operations, focused on elegance and perfection in his work, and desired to run his own operation his way without the influences and limitations which come from family businesses.
Eventually it became too much and Phocas left his family, as he sought to find another path for himself. His business acumen and practical skills in masonry, combined with a high quality education made him an incredibly valuable employee. After several small projects were completed successfully, Phocas took an unusual but lucrative contract to build far from his typical town and parish work. The employer's "covenant" was a series of perfect opportunities to demonstrate his skills.
Phocas was then approached by a representative of The Order with a a more permanent offer; a different style challenge which appealed to him greatly - "why not work amongst those who value knowledge over wealth, for whom worldly power holds little sway. Build your own legacy Phocas".
With his new role acting as the covenant Autocrat as well as running the affairs of the masonry business Phocas is adamantly determined to prove himself. Phocas recognises he lacks the background to perform all functions of the autocrat smoothly, but considers himself worthy of the challenge and intends to run both aspects of the covenant professionally and with vigor. The irony of being intolerant of incompetence and his new role is not lost upon him, but he does not find this point humorous. He is also aware that his temper could potentially be his undoing with the Magi, who are superior to him in the covenant, so he is attempting to withhold his anger or divert it to other people and places.
Personality
Phocas is a hard task master for his teams and workers, but understands the value of praise and also appreciates that not all workers are as driven as he is. In direction and attitude he is forthright, clear, and prides himself on accuracy. He prefers leading his staff, but is not above performing the work himself and assisting his workers directly; especially if any show interest or talent. He is known to "not suffer fools".
"A good job, on budget, on time, and a match to the desired function"

STATUS - THIS CHARACTER IS ONLY AROUND WHEN CALLIOPE IS
Psellos - Calliope's Shield Grog
Psellos was assigned as Calliope's shield grog when she was but an apprentice, and has served her since. Whilst he's beginning to show signs of age now, it's yet to seriously impede him. During one of her earlier adventures, Calliope stole something from a powerful fae, but Psellos ended up having to buy her time to escape at the cost of his own capture. By the time Calliope was able to arrange his rescue (probably at least as much from a feeling that leaving her man in the villain's clutches was not the appropriate course of action as out of any care for him in his own right), his health had been permanently damaged, in addition to him having undergone sufficient faerie warping for him and theft to have a very bad relationship from then on.
