I'm reading the dream magic section of TMRE for the first time and I notice that it seems very fun.
But I'm wondering, do the magical creatures (who need to sleep) dream?
I expect angels and demons to not dream, because they do not sleep.
For faeries, they do not sleep also, but I could see a faerie taking a role in which it sleeps, so the question also has merit.
Those questions are related to the fact that to enter a sleeper dream, I assume it mus first dream.
Now at the opposite, I notice by the example on TMRE p104 that a being with magical might can be part of a "group" being sent in the dream of a dreamning sleeper by "the road of lemnons" as long as it has a intelligence (the example has Metrodorus go in dream adventure with his familiar, about which we do not know if he can sleep or not).
But my recent thread reminded me that might is not a requisite for a familiar, so nothing in that example confirms that magical being can go with you ; that raven familiar could be a normal animal.
But I think it's assumed since the "sent in dreams" do not start to dream, they are in trance, and nothing prevents a magical being to be in trance even if he must sleep (magical meditation is available to magical being who do not sleep and is essentialy a trance at low energy).
Has anybody experience with dream magic and opinion about it?
Which is to say it will present itself as dreaming. It may move in its sleep, talk in its sleep, or even have dreams that may be entered with magic or may "dream" for the purposes of being sent into a dream or similar magic. However it has no "soul" or subconscious, so such dreams are in effect just pretenses.
Magical might suggests something entirely different, typically a sort of ultra-reality to the creature. Dreaming could take on any number of concepts- from some kind of spirit projection into the realm of magic to receiving information from a patron in dream format to an actual subconscious attuned to magical vibrations around them. This is something that would really need to be decided on a case by case basis since the biggest rule of the magic realm is that not all magic creatures are the same. A vampire which remains in stasis during daylight is different from a dragon which rests its eyes in a magical aura. On the other hand just because a creature does not dream may not indicate that it cannot, for some reason or another, enter the dreams of others.
Similarly Angels and Demons do not dream but are renowned for speaking to people in their dreams.
I totally agree, but before deciding for my group, I wanted to check if there was something official and not having found something answering from a canon perspective, I prefered to ask here since many persons here are very knowledgeable about the game and its lore/canon rules.
