Flam winter 1202 the Foundling

Vallju was apprehensive about being turned into a bear, but he somewhat trusted these magical people. He just hoped he wouldn't stay an animal...

Are you planning to carry equipment in bear form?

Vallju will definitely want to carry his armor and weapons. But he wouldn't even know whether that's possible or not, or that it makes the spell harder to cast. He has no such knowledge,
Though, he does carry his weapons and wearing his armor, so the magi should know enough to raise the issue.

Hugh doesn't have a problem with form reqs. Question is what to do about the baby... we could wrap it in a magically warm swaddling and carry it, or turn it into a bear too; but I think as a bear it'll be more like a normal bear since it's human mind isn't developed. But it's a faerie so maybe it will just behave in line with the story? Can faerie lore answer the question? [Rolled a 9]

Btw, am I right in thinking MuCo can make anyone a working nursemaid?

Obviously you would need to penetrate the faerie's innate magic resistance. Aside from that a changeling essentially emulates a sick and helpless child, so it would be safe to assume that 1) the resultant bear cub will not need any less attention and 2) the faerie story will take any opportunity this might create to make the child more sickly, helpless, or generally in a bad way.

Hugh says, "Well, I'll change into a bear, and you can..." He suddenly stops, and smacks himself in the head. "The ship!" He shakes his head. "The Askeladden! I can't believe I forgot! We can just take it. Let's make sure it's provisioned and we can leave in the morning."

Hugh will arrange for the ship to be supplied and crewed for an overland journey, leaving the next morning.

[Hugh will cast The Tireless Magus and Sustain the Demanding Spell while in the Aura before we leave.

MuIm to make the ship look like a cloud from the outside but normal on the inside, and make the mast and sails all white so they aren't obvious, but leaving them relatively normal along with the inside of the ship for the sake of the sailors.

You depart for the north the next morning (does someone want to roll Mu or Re corpus for feeding the child?), and within a day you are within sight of the mountain. Of course the Drottning's abode is in a regio which must be entered at the base of the mountain, with her actual abode at the top, and from what you gather probably through several regio levels.

Hugh has everyone put their outer garment, and the baby's blanket, in a pile; then he casts a spell on everything to make it warm, along with his own robe.

[CrIg 2 +1 Touch +2 Group +1 Conc; to make the various items warm; then sustaining concentration on the spell. Rolls on Discord.]

Hugh nods. "We'll need to journey up the mountain through regios. It will be a proper faerie story, we should be ready for anything. And don't forget how faerie works, knowing the rules will make a big difference."

Hugh will take a splinter of wood from the deck of the ship. "Let us off at the bottom, and once you see us vanish, head back to Flam. If you want to wait for morning, I suggest doing it out of reach of giants, but low enough to be out of notice of flying predators. Have someone on watch on deck in case I send an image of myself. If it is truly me, it will say Liberandum." He looks at the other magi, "I suggest you have your own signals, don't tell me what they are."

The captain chews his lip "Is it okay to write that down or should I memorize it?"

"Try to memorize it, it's only one word, Liberandum. Most likely I'll get us back on my own so it won't be necessary."

"Right" You see him mouthing the word under his breath repeatedly, and you aren't sure he is pronouncing it right...

Hugh shrugs, "Normal faerie stuff to make our journey harder. You know as well as me. But I wouldn't worry too much about the Connection, they can make Charms anyway. Though I do wonder what it takes to form a magical connection with a child."

You exit the boat and the cold wind is howling even here at the base of the mountain. The entry to the regio is not an obvious one, and this far north in the dead of winter the days are very short, a couple of hours of daylight from dawn to dusk.

There is two feet of snow on the ground, and no obvious sign of tracks, though someone with a hunt ability might find more subtle signs.

Hugh casts a spell, then looks around for a regio entrance.

[Spont version of piercing the faeirie veil, roll on discord (success)]

Hugh spots a rabbit caught up in an abandoned net which is itself caught on a bare branched shrub. Releasing the rabbit opens the way into the next regio, which is a matter of following a simple path that is not apparent until the rabbit is released.

Hugh warns the others, " This trapped rabbit is the regio entrance, when I release it the regio will open, we have to follow the path it takes. Get close to me and get ready in case we have to follow it quickly."

Once the others are ready, he will release the rabbit.
