General Table Talk

Ditto. I'm just funny that way.

Thought you had made a grog awhile ago. Just play that guy
If you want

Quoting the Rock touches my heart

Well, I found that taking inspiration from someone helps a lot.

For exemple, Bienvenido: I find myself more and more modeling him on Volstagg.

Oh my. Well that would pose the same problem as making up a new grog on the fly, only worse-- he's not complete, and details of his background not figured out, but in his case those details could be very important (Vulcanus' "shield" grog is goblin blooded, but I never determined how much he knows about that heritage).

I have done a lot of recent research, and am thinking about turining it into a SR article
Goblin is a very broad catch-all category. So they do not think of themselves as a sigular race or ethnic group or anything such as that. Most goblins dwell alone or in small family groups (or in gangs). The horde approaching now is a motley alliance of clans forged by Pappa Norman, chief of the Valnord Vipers.
Most Goblins are Tainted with Evil, but not all. Some (especially the faeries) may be helpful and do chores and claim rewards such as food or drink left out for them. But some of these faries may likewise turn evil and maliciously mischevious. Especially if they feel taken advantage of.

If Vulcanus' shield man is also German, then he is probably of Kobold blood. Kobolds are faeries, usually of the prankster sort or the helpful house guardian sort. So no relation or sympathies

Helpful house goblin fits along with his skill set

Most excellent
Most goblin storied I have found are; a) not as old as I would like them to be; and b) tend to focus on goblins as solitary folk, either helping a household or haunting them. These are likely faeries. There was one story I found, a poem actually, where there were a band of goblin merchants selling fruit. It started out seeming like a faerie story, the price was precious tears. But it ended quite un-faerie like. The girl who ate the fruit was dying and could not eat other foods anymore. Her sister went to purchase the magic fruit to try to save her, and when she went to pay with cash, the goblins got mad and attacked her and tried to force feed her the fruit.
And then there is David Bowie, the Goblin King. Labyrinth goblins were faeries.

Next week, when I get a chance to tinker with it again, I will share some of my data with you and hopefully you will have some feedback, or perhaps are interested in helping further my research. I am trying to walk a fine line between history and commonly accepted fantasy trope.

Hello Folks,

Marko invited me to post here, as, with your leave, I may be joining the saga. I've started going over things, and the various characters, and I wanted to let you know the concept I've been toying with.

Much is still up in the air, but ultimately I'd like to play a Bjornaer magus who specializes in researching magical creatures. Likely of Clan Arelie, a follower of Herisson, and a Harmonist, I see someone who wants to carefully breed and potentially domesticate various magical beasts for the good of the order. Just as Herisson saw the scarsity of vis as a cause of strife within the order, and between the order and mundanes, my character would see the captive breeding of magical creatures as a sustainable source of familiars. This would likely bring him into contact with more wilderist members of his house. I can see him traveling to Andorra to study the dragon (what dragon?) and the other creatures in the area.

Much of the mechanics have yet to be worked out. Are there any arts specialists that are currently lacking, other then Animal?

Welcome!!

With regards to your question about Forms, I just did a quick browse through the extant characters, and (while I may have missed someone) we don't appear to have anyone with a good (10+) score in An, Aq, Me, or Te. So a bit of room there. Mentem is not traditionally a Bjornaer art, but you can do some fun things with Aquam and some very fun things with Terram. (One of my favorite concepts ever was a badger Bjornaer Terram specialist, so I might be biased.)

Looking forward to hearing more from you!

Vulcanus has a 14 Terram! And Puissant!

Like I said, I may have missed someone. Sorry, Ryu.

Thanks for checking that out for me. I definitely see him as an Animal specialist. I could see either Aq or Me working as a second area of focus, depending on which route I take. One option is a high presence wolf heartbeast, a pack leader type, in which case Mentem would make sense. Alternatively Aquam would let me expand my interests to aquatic animals. I know we're in the mountains, but are we near water at all?

I also noticed a thread about the covenant being a former Mercere house, and trying to rebuild. I could see certain animals, magic-bred horses, even pegasi, as being a real asset to Redcaps.

Sooo... I'm standing there talking about dropping trees and going "what a pity no one can conjure us some stone walls" and you're just smiling and nodding, then?

We have rivers, but we are a long way from the sea.
There is a lot of magical wilderness about us all around though. Dragons and griffons and owlbears and giant badgers and vorple bunnies and etceteras.
What about a Bonisagus zoologist?
No, stick with Bjornaer....
What about a giant badger for a Heartbeast?

I am now off to research what sort of critters actually live in the high Pyreneese mountains

The Pyrenean Ibex

He's also half Gardaitis's age. Give him a season and he can make you an item that conjures up beautiful walls. But he doesn't have that formulaically and he can't pull it off spontaneously-- aside from the fact that he's taken care to cultivate the appearance that he cannot cast spontaneously.

I must admit I had considered the Bonisagus route ... I was puzzling over what would happen if a Bonisagus snatched a Bjornaer apprentice after the Heartbeast had been opened. Does anyone know of any precedent on this subject?
