Would any of the magi be interested in taking Duncan as an assistant?

Alister will be teaching for two seasons in 1220. He'll do Latin for one of them and Awareness for the other (unless someone really has a need for something else). I'll say Latin in Summer and Awareness in Winter just to put in some place-holder seasons. But really, whatever two seasons work out best for people are fine by me.

Since it seems like grogs can learn from teachers or books now (in place of their highest remaining season of learning), I'll have Cory learn Latin and Awareness in his off seasons from Alister.

That makes two for Latin in Summer (Finn and Cory), which gives a SQ of 20. If I get other takers, it drops the SQ down to 17.
I've got one taker (Cory) for Awareness in the Winter, which gives a SQ of 24. If I get one other taker, it drops the SQ down to 20, and if I get two or more, it takes the SQ down to 17.

Alister can take up to 30 students, so I don't think that'll be a problem.

Can anyone help explain the method for altering a lab's attributes?

I've read Covenants and cannot find a way to calculate the time and difficulty in altering the lab Corbin has. e.g. Aesthetics +4 is something I wish to reduce, and then add a different increase. It is very opaque to me at present.

You must spend seasons gaining Refinement to make changes in the virtues and flaws of a lab. With Corbin's lab it might be tough. Dedicated building give a +1 Aesthetics. The lighting and the heat are +1 each. All of them are free virtues. They do not cost space. You must spend 2 season setting up the lab to remove the -3 quality. You could then spend another season adding either a refinement or using the +1 refinement you have to add a virtue.

Rather than lowering Aesthetics, what do you want to raise?

Here is a map with some possible locations for cottages. (A-H). People can pick a spot for their cottage or I can pick it for them. Whatever people prefer.

Looks great to me.

Also, if Peregrine can tell me where to put the sanctum that belonged to Cainneach ex Miscellanea (from 1152 to 1165) and Cináed of Bonisagus (1168-1182), I'll put that on the map too.

Doh, missed that as the reason for much of the aesthetic score. Thank you.

My suss is that it is a single season to remove the -3 "basic lab" modifier, as that is the difference between a basic lab (gained after 1 season of setup) and a normal +0 lab (gained after two). Otherwise it doesn't make much sense compared to rebuilding from scratch.

Knowing where the Aesthetics is from makes it half the issue, I'll have to go digging more. I want to raise the General Quality (I'll update the lab note on the wiki). I know that each season adds refinement and then can later add specialisation in one of the attributes, but getting all the numbers and costs together is what is kicking me. I'll keep at it.

That is why I asked, as it's noted to be missing. I'd like it to be at position "C" in your revised version.

Fair warning: it's generally very hard to raise General Quality without also raising the yearly cost of the lab.

Could we put Laerleggr in D please?

With the sheer size of Bea's place (60'x35'), B or C would be best.

I thought that as well until I read the text for the basic lab flaw. It is two seasons.

Time becomes way more important to magi that just about anything.

No, it is one season. Covenants p 116 - Basic flas says specifically that this flaw takes a season to remove.

Can grogs study books in the library? I'd like to have Cory study one or two, but I'm not sure who has access.

I never bothered to place them. I just figured that whoever claimed them could "find" them wherever they wanted.

The older labs, for the most part, do take time to rebuild. (Detailed in House-Hunting thread.)

Scylla's old lab (taken by Angus) will take two seasons to get usable: one to get from a -5 penalty to a -3, and a second to erase the penalty entirely.

Cainneach & Cináed's (Corbin) and Sylvanus's (unclaimed?) will take one season to get from -3 to no penalty.

All of the other labs (Curwen, Doineann, and Drystan/Corvus) are technically usable as-is, although the new owners might want to take time to reconfigure them.

I'm interested in items too, both crafting some and buying. This is an item Corbin is planning to invent in Winter 1221. It's not adding mechanics which many lab rats will like, but its typical of his character. If others want one let me know.

Insulation for the Dedicated Lab
Perdo Imagonem 25, R: Touch, D: Sun, T: Structure
This effect stops any sounds from entering or leaving the structure, granting the "Well Insulated" lab virtue (+1 Safety, +1 Aesthetics).
(Base 3 to remove sound, +1 Touch, +2 Sun, +3 Structure)
Device effect total 29 (2 uses per day +1, environmental trigger +3 = constant)
Note: 1220.2 LT for PeIm is 60 = 1 season to create.

We still have to spend season setting them up for us. I followed the rules on on pg 118 for taking over a lab. Corvus will have to spend another season removing Predecessor flaw.

Doesn't it take two seasons to get rid of a flaw? One to increase Refinement and another to get rid of a flaw? I ask because I'm looking to get rid of a flaw and I've tagged it as taking two seasons.
