Yes. It's the way that the falcon has its Cunning changed to Intelligence.

You know, if you don't want to waste a quality to give the bird intelligence, you don't have to. Once a creature becomes a familiar, it automatically converts its cunning to intelligence. Just a thought.

No Familiar Qualities until Magic Theory 6 and acquiring Troupe approval. It is not that page that says they are experimental, It is the page leading to that page. It lists that, Common Alchemy, and Jewish Folk Witches. Ideas I was tinkering with that are not yet ready for public release.
Virtues taken as Qualities should be listed as Qualities.
And...
Not a heck of a lot is any problem for me. It looks good taking into consideration the minor changes you plan for version 5.

Check the fine print in the Beasts supplement. The example falcon is based on a gyrfalcon, which is the only species of falcon that merits a -3 size. All other falcons are -4.

True, but then it converts over at -3 Int. If I take Magic Blood (Human), it just changes over Cun to Int. Also, it gives a +1 to a Characteristic, not to exceed +3.

Having Intelligence instead of Cunning is a Free choice for Magic Animal characters. And having Magic Human Blood seems like munchkin gravy with no real bearing on the character.
And, I apologize to Peregrine, but he gave you bad advice and you are going about it backwards. Do not, repeat, do not start with a mundane beast and convert it into a magic animal. Start with a blank slate and follow the rules in RoP-Magic to create a Magic Animal character from scratch. Use the stats of the mundane version as a guideline of what you are aiming for. Purchase (x) abilities, take (x) Virtues & Flaws, set your base size around (x), etceteras. Still, everything must balance from scratch.
You are not a gyrofalcon or peregrine falcon or any of those. Your subspecies is Falcon of Virtue. Blue Falcon? :slight_smile:
As for Size, it does not matter as long as it balances out. Your Base Size modifies Magic Might after all is said and done (does not add qualities). Virtues/Flaws/Qualities/Inferiorities have no effect on might.
Example, Base Might 10, Base Size -2, Small Frame. Final Might 12, Final Size -3. The average beast of virtue of this species is normally Size -2, you are smaller than normal but Might remains the same.

Adn there's the point where I realized I had to stop editing Lucas familiar and just go for the latest revision :laughing:

I was going to argue about this, but then I discovered that the mundane animals in the Beasts supplement are not remotely balanced from a characteristics standpoint. The falcon's base characteristics, before adjusting for size, would cost 14 points. A lion's would cost 19, a wolf's would cost 4, a hound's would cost 4 even though it has Improved Characteristics, and a cat's would 'cost' -2 points. Falcons are apparently just awesome, which means Magical falcons need at least three Improved Characteristics to be the equal of a mundane one. I've adjusted Celeste to account for this, leaving her characteristics essentially unchanged but dropping some qualities to add Improved Characteristics three times.

BTW, I've been meaning to ask, how did you get Celeste's Soak up to +4 from -2?

Okay, this adjust for stat totals.

By ignoring the unexplained -2 value in the falcon template and calculating it normally. She has Sta +2 and the Improved Soak quality.

I just figured that out by actually looking it up in the rulebook. (Imagine that!) Not sure where that -4 came from for falcons. It can't even be adding Size to Soak, since the falcon listed has a Size of -3.

1.) Is it a secret that Lucas is in the Milvi Antiquiti, or is membership in that organization something I can talk about?

2.) Is it possible to teach the skills of Boosting, Harnessing, and Tethering?

3.) Am I even allowed to teach other people those skills, or are they a secret ability that I'm not allowed to share?

  1. Not sure. Probably okay.
  2. These are also Spell Mastery Abilities which can indeed be taught and learned. But the Virtue(s) cannot be taught without some sort of Mystery Initiaton.
  3. Probably not, and I am not sure you can. Except for the Spell Mastery, which you are freely able to develop for your spells even if it is redundant. But you probably shouldn't, though I am not sure if you shouldn't. Lemme get back to you (or let someone else answer).

I don't recall seeing this in the house rules before the recent update. Based on this, could I swap out 20 points of Attributes for two months of learning spells? I feel kind of funny being ten years out of my gauntlet with only the spells I had at my gauntlet.

I have no problem with that.
