nothing in the rule changes the SQ, what it does is define how many times it can be studied.
So for example if Paphos creates a piece of artwork with AQ=20 then it will have SQ=10 and may be studied by the same student (who must already have at least one point in craft:mason) up to 10 times.
While in theory an apprentice who has studied for one season could study the statue for ten seasons (2.5 years) and get a skill of 6 (assuming 5 points from their one previous season), the reality is they have no way of feeding themselves during that time, nor source of shelter. The more likely outcome will be that the master will train the apprentice for one season a year for 8 pts, they will work for 2 seasons for 4 pts over two seasons in exposure, then on their season off they will study the statue for 10 pts. With this they will match the master's skill in 2.5 years, after which they will learn other abilities in their training (such as leadership), and be gaining up to 14 points/yr in mason
of course anyone other than Paphos who has an apprentice at the covenant should probably be studying the statue for on or two of their off seasons in a year, so if they come in with ability:5 they will reach ability 6 after 3 seasons of study... but then again Paphos is a very exceptional stoneworker, and his statues are also exceptional.
Also keep in mind that the price of a statue is the artist's reputation lbs of silver per season, which means 3 seasons to create AQ:30 or SQ:15, and most artists producing this quality are near to becoming ascendant beings.
Terram only adds the form bonus if I read A&A right. Which is 1/5th rounded up the art score.
Just re-read that and I believe you are correct. Amazing how many times you can read something and still get it wrong. Thanks!
I've had something come up and will have extremely limited posting time for the next few weeks. As such I'll let others handle our winter mystery. Feel free to use any of my characters to support. I'll check in when I can, but I don't expect to resume my normal schedule for a few weeks.
I am still around even though I dont post a lot. I have professional stuff going on, so I have less free time.
Quick question -
Can Paphos set up his workshop as a Hermetic Laboratory given his magic theory and Terram Inclination? If he can, would a Terram specialty in the lab add to his crafting in the usual manner, i.e. Terram bonus to crafting magic items and 1/5 Terram adding to Aesthetic Quality?
With MT of 3 you can set up a hermetic lab, so yes, I'll even let it use the verditius house rule regarding workshop labs. Also you will be able to use the lab bonus for items to instill magical effects into artwork.
Is this limited to instilling effects, or does this also modify the Terram Form bonus added to Aesthetic Quality?
Any lab terram bonus will add to the terram effect, but items is only for magical effects.
I am back ! Will try to post soon.
please be sure to fill in the activities planner for your characters under player resource links.
Just got back from a spot of travel. Trying to catch up now.
regarding the planning chart- I plan to use this not just to coordinate plans (who is teaching, who is a student, who has which book out, etc), but also to accelerate the adventures. If I see something you are doing in 1222 that is likely to require an adventure, I can get moving on this more quickly. This does however require that everyone have their planning filled in well in advance of where the campaign actually is. I am also using it to calculate 'current' levels of ability and experience distribution, so filling it back to when you joined would also be very useful.
What seasons are the two tribunals this year? I believe Normandy and Roman?
Actually most tribunals are this year- Stonehenge and the Levant have theirs in 1222 instead. Normandy and Rome were the ones where Vis is expected to be in greatest demand (Normandy according to the sourcebooks, Rome by convention from 3rd edition, which is decidedly not cannon now). Of course Rome will probably want you to join their tribunal, while Normandy you would just be there for trade.
In summer Frederic likes to travel to the Normandie Tribunal. Hopefully we can (re)activate a crew for our ship. A normal crew. Maybe it helps if we increase the payment?
What season are Normandy and Rome?
Both Tribunals meet in the summer.
Are the trading portions of both Tribunals at the same time? If so, we need to send out two different sets of people.
I've been assuming two groups, for travel time if nothing else. My thought was, once we crew the ship to sail to a port between Italy and Normady, perhaps Monaco or Marsailles. Both groups will leave from there and make their way independently while the boat conducts trading missions. Here are some possible people who could help:
Task Force Normady:
Frederick (French 5, magi)
David (French 2+2 and bargain(books) at 5(5)
Henri (French 5)
This group would need a grog, perhaps Zoltan, Oderisi or Pepe?
Task Force Rome:
Antonius (Italian 5, magi)
Julia (Italian 5)
Pallas (Gift of Tongues, Bargain 3)
Random grog
Palls is the only one we have that both speaks Italian and has bargain, unless you count Paphos who is not very fluent and not a good bargainer (Italian 3/Bargain 1) Of course we would need to convince Talus. Maybe they could stop by Pisa on the way through....
