Provence summer 1202, a matter of honor

The estate is small for an estate, probably due to it being so close to a city. The occupants seem more focused on form than function compared to what she has seen elsewhere, and there is a greater sense of status and more significantly more importance associated with status than she is accustomed to. She also gets the sense that style and intrigue are both deemed to be of great importance.
You also discover that when you go to retrieve your casting tools and fan from your cloak that they are not there, and your door is locked.

So, he is intimidated by my magic, and wishes to try and deprive me of it. Good that he knows little. She will look around the apartment for shears or scissors, or some such. If She doesn't find them, she will go to sleep, and come morning will make her next move.

OOC: The fan was left at the covenant. She didn't bring it with her when she went to meet the Gentleman.

There are no shears of scissors in the apartment.
In the morning you awake to find a maid sitting in a chair near you bed. When she realizes you are awake she springs to her feet to attend to you and see you bathed if you desire it, your hair combed and styled, and dressed before breakfast.

Playing the part of the obedient lady, she will let the maid bathe her, comb and style her hair, and dress her. And will be engaging over breakfast, waiting to see what he has prepared. She will however ask for needles, a piece of cloth, and some colored spools of yarn, and if asked why, she'll tell him that she liked to embroider in her free time.

As you sit down to breakfast the request for sewing supplies is set aside "After we discuss more significant matters we can sort such trivialities. I believe my position is clear, I wish for us to wed, as was originally agreed between our families. You have traveled here to discuss this with me, as your own decision, so I assume you have some opinion on the matter that is something other than being completely opposed to it, so let us hear what you have to say."

"Well, since you asked for my opinion, I shall give it to you. I am not terribly opposed to it, provided we can reach an agreement on what it entails."

"I believe a marriage between us will end the feuding of our families, and I wish to have an heir, of my own actual bloodline, with you. What is it that you require?"

"My freedom. As you understand, I am a Magus, and my pursuit of it will dominate most of my life, not to mention that I'd rather not get too entangled in politics. I will give you an heir, but I will not be minding the estate or, for that matter, even live here. Oh, and of course, the return of my items." She adds the last with a smile.

" Your items remain your own, it is not seeming that tools should be stored in a bedroom, and so they were relocated appropriately. Long term the issue of residency is not a problem, once an heir is produced. However to ensure the bloodline and protect against rumors of cuckoldry some precautions must exist."

"And those precautions might be?"

"Typically it would be for you to live here until after the birth of my heir. Unless you have an alternative way to ensure that you are carrying my offspring that will ensure not only my confidence in the fact but that of everyone else."

"Suppose for now that I do not have an alternative means. What's in it for me to stay here for the time needed to deliver you with an offspring? After all, you expect me to stay here for that long."

"To be honest my assessment of your situation when I first sent for you, shall we say underestimated the situation you would find yourself in. I don't know what sort of practice has led you your supernatural abilities, but I would gather they have more benefits than would be expected of a commune of scholars and artists would normally suggest. Aside from fine food and clothes what would interest you? Rare books perhaps?"

"Fine food and clothes are nice, but not much of interest. I'd admit you've caught me by surprise, but let me see what could be of interest to me. Rare books could be useful, assuming they interest me, and that once an offspring is produced, I could take them with me. I might not be from a commune of scholars as you envision it, but books can be of use. There is another thing that could be of use." And here she pauses, and gives him a direct look. "As I admitted, you've taken me by surprise. And I'd hate for it to happen again, so someone who will teach me politics could be of use, for both of us."

"If you produce a girl you can take her with you until age 14, when she will begin to learn a more courtly way of handling herself here with tutors, at least enough to arrange a suitable marriage. A boy you can raise until the age of five, but after that I will insist that I have him 3 seasons out of four to begin his training for his adult responsibilities. If you do have a girl we will need to try again, but you can certainly take a break for motherhood at your... is commune even the right word? for a period of 2 years if you wish."

"So far it seems acceptable. What kinds of rare books were you thinking of? And what about a tutor for me, in terms of politics and etiquette?" If she has to spend at least three Seasons here, she might as well use it to learn something of use. "Also, I would require that the ruffians who took my staff near my commune be tracked down, and the staff returned to me. And in return, I will find a favorable way to assist you."

" I wouldn't know, I'll find a purchasing agent and you can explain to him what you are looking for. Of course you can browse my library but honestly those have been chosen for what looks good on the shelves or in a case. Some were chosen for the fame of the author, those might be worth something to you, especially wile you wait for the purchaser to locate what you are looking for. The tutor can certainly be arranged, likely within a couple of weeks. The ruffians and the staff will be more difficult, should I assume the importance lies with the staff more than the ruffians?"

"You would assume correctly, though getting my hands on those ruffians would be a treat. Such people need to be taught a lesson not to mess with me. And one thing you should know, is that another one of those ideas you have about my commune, is partly true. As a noble, you might find it ridiculous, but I have spent some of my time learning the craft of woodworking. Give me a piece of wood, and pit me against your best woodworker, and you'll find that I'm likely not too bad at it. And that staff they stole, is one of my own creation."

He closes his eyes for a second "I must ask that you not make this admission to anyone else in the area. It would be most unseemly if word got out that a woman of the nobility had been trained in a lowly craft. We will find another reason that the staff is important to you and do our best to locate it. So we have an agreement then?"

She laughs at his discomfort "I made this admission to you, so you know that there is more to me than what you've seen so far. You can say in public whatever reason you want for finding that staff, just as long as I get it back, and as I said, I'd make it worth your while." She takes a more serious look then. "I believe we have an agreement. And tell me, what do your lands produce? It would take me some time to come up with a reward that would be suitable, but knowing it would allow me to formulate something useful for you. After all, due to that first encounter, I was partly bent on tying you up in a know when I lay eyes on you."
