Table Talk: OOC

We don't know if the Captain is Hermetic, Hedge, or just has second sight. Hey, FMB, can we learn from the captives about what if any magic they ever saw the Captain perform? Oh, I would also like to find as much as I can about the position of their island.

Otherwise, if no one else wants to make use of the Pirates, I defer to KerryBlue and The Pendant. Akoe wanted someone to teach him Arabic and someone who could connect him into some folks in the black market. Those are both easy enough to come by otherwise. If Octavius wants to save them for humanitarian reasons, great. If Claudius wants 'em for experiments, great.

Memory experiments, huh? Claudius need a lab assistant?

For XP:

Can I justify using five points to get a 1 in Arabic from time spent with the prisoners and slaves? If not, I'll put four points to Rego and three points to Brawl

Just so you know, Sekhmet is native Arabic speaker (arabic 5) that perhaps for the right bribe, she could teach you.

Claudius is mildly interested in the "mystery island," but, like most things not involving guaranteed fun, he's not interested enough to do anything about it; at least, not beyond some fun attempts at questioning the pirates. Anyone want to see what a CrMe creating the compulsion to "tell us everything you know"?

Claudius is actually way more interested in what Guillermo is up to. He has a wholly unreasonable suspicion of him.

As for assistance in the lab, Claudius doesn't need an assistant. He needs a test subject or two.

I thought about that LadyPhoenix, but right now, Akoe and Sekhemet don't seem to be in any danger of becoming "Burnt By the Sun"'s romantic subplot. Time apart might be best.

I'm defering to the others on the Pirates (I mean eveyone else, not just Kerry and Pedant). If they say Sekhemet gets 'em, there you go.

Romance is not likely to be the bribe that would appease or appeal to a bloodlust, vengeful flambeau. Something Hermetic, reciprocal teaching, or other gifts might appeal but romantic couple is not the right sort.

Hmm. What does Akoe know Sekhemet might want to know? Let me get back to ya.

Warjoski, a point in Arabic is fine.

Sorry I missed out on some of the stuff that went on today.

Sinmore will put 5 xp into mastering the spell Ball of Abysmal Flame and the focus will be Penetration.

For the 2 exposure xp I'll put it into a language that was spoken on the boat. Would it be italien or Arabic? I'd rather it be Arabic if possible.

edit: changed focus to Penetration

The island could also be shrouded in a kind of Fog of Confusion, hence why none of the pirate crew could ever find it. Or it could be some other thing. Just giving possibilities. Hermetic magi are not the only ones able to use arcane connections either. At this point it could be anything.

As for the two pirates, Octavius understands that pirating deserves punishment, and he is willing to let it be done, though he will be ardently against death by fire. Hanging or beheading is fine, but seeing those archers get burned alive has scarred him.

Warjoski, I believe you and I are the only ones who have expressed an interest in the slaves. Do you have a preference?

FMB, what languages do the two slaves speak? And I would like to change my one exp that I put in Parma to Arabic. Totally forgot about learning a new language.

Okay, let's take a vote on the pirate/slave situation.

PIRATES: Live or die?

SLAVES: Want a grog / don't want a grog?

I'm with "live" and "don't want a grog."

Sinmore is for hanging the pirates, but in all honesty she got her satisfaction on the boat. She can easily be convinced to keep them alive and put them to work.

Pirates can be chained on Claudius' wall. Want a grog

Kerry, I would prefer the slavishly devoted one. I've got an idea or two I think might be fun. But I am okay with the other if you've got a good concept.

Warjoski, that works for me. I'll take the Egyptian merc.

Sekhmet wouldn't mind a grog but she can wait and is in no hurry if it means she gets to kill the pirates.

Kill the pirates

Grogs: Not urgent.

Also: I have a thought for keeping the pirates alive, but free from escape.

Most of us have not insignificant skill in Perdo Mentem, and, if I remember my Magic Theory correctly, what gets destroyed stays destroyed. So if we each cast spontaneous PeMe spells on the pirates' memories of their pirate home and associations, once or twice a day, within a week they won't know where they came from or who their associates were.

(also - exposure experience)

We could also try do destroy their knowledge of combat, but that would take more time and would require more finesse.

Are you insane?????

First off, my pe/me is not so good but more importantly, so much sponting will almost definately us a botch or two. I don't know about you but I am not going to court botches to save the lives of pirates. Just hang them and forget about them.

You have two slaves to be freed or kept. I am seeing three or four of us wanting to kill the pirates. That seems like a majority.

They are not worth taking with us to use our supplies on any journey. To risk at our back at night in worrying about escape. all it would take is one invisible djinn to free them and suddenly the djinn has two helpers to attack us. I don't want to be walking through these lands with two arab prisoners. We don't need to get all the islamics after us in addition to any other foes.

Actually, I think the "save the pirates" group is currently in the majority (3-2, with two not voting) as Octavius was agreeing with Akoe, not abstaining (since he saved the pirates in the first place, that makes sense). There are two votes left, and you'll need to convince both of them to be as bloody-handed as you.

If you don't want to take part in my experiment, don't. Whatever. You're probably the only reborn goddess worried about botching your magic.

ACtually, Sinmore and Sekhmet want to kill them (and technically can just go to where they are captive nad kill them).

Octavious is for punishing them as long as the death is hanging, not fire. (even pilum of fire, practice target to master pilum, hmmmmm)

KerryBlue and Thependant want to keep them but you have the two slaves.

The fact is 1) they should be killed for what they did, 2) keeping them with us is a drain of resources, time, effort and potential threat. 3) There isn't much that could keep Sekhmet or Sinmore from killing them if they really wanted to.

We seem both to be double-counting Octavius (KerryBlue)'s vote. I counted it for me because he most recently concurred with Akoe - albeit possibly not regarding the pirates; you count it for you because he agreed that punishment, including death, might be merited.

Perhaps he needs to clarify what he prefers - I have no intention of letting the pirates go free or unpunished.

As for my ability to "stop" you from killing the pirates, I have no interest in standing in your way; I will not challenge you to certamen, and I will not guard the pirates. You may do as you wish, just know that, absent a vote by all our sodales, I will consider the destruction of these pirates a deprivation of my magical power and reserve my right to compensation under Hermetic Law.

Actually, unless you can prove they were yours conclusively, you can not make such a claim and in absense of certamen to exert your claim over anyone else or other evidence to prove they are yours, it would go nowhere.
