Winter Drake Hunt (Winter 1230)

Guillme is able to percieve a plume of fire (from the goblin warlock Vibria lit up). Using Wizard's Leap, he can get there in 20 rounds. If he uses MuVi to boost it by one Magnitude it will y=take three rounds. If he boosts it by two magnitudes, he can make it there in a single round.

From that vantage point, the barricade where the goblins were defeated, the action is atop the hill over yonder, About a 620 paces (1/8 mile).
Alexandro runs, an extended action requiring 13 rounds (and thirteen Fatigue rolls)
Sta +1, minus Encubrance 1, Ease Factor 6: 1d10=3, 1d10=7, 1d10=6, 1d10=6, 1d10=9, 1d10=1, 1d10=3, 1d10=8, 1d10=4, 1d10=7, 1d10=1, 1d10=4, 1d10=6
Two "1's" to follow up on...
1d10=8, 1d10=5
He spends a point of Confidence on the first, seventh, ninth, and twelfth rolls

Vulcanus riding Egon at a gallop can get there in 12 rounds. Either the LoM rules are screwy or Egon is slow. Maybe both. It will take Vibria 15 rounds running (30 at a jog).

Meanwhile...

The Hag has the highest Initiative, and will take the opportunity to disappear in a puff of smoke.
The ogres will gand up on the Brute (-4 penalty, the group uses stats of the vanguard who has a broken face from last round)
Attack & Defense rolls: 1d10=10, 1d10=2
Ogres check for a botch: 1d10=7, 1d10=2
No Botch. Atack 12 vs Defense 21, no hits.
Brute vs Ogres: 1d10=6, 1d10=9
Attack 27, Defense 15; Base Damage 16 + atvantage 12 = 28, minus Soak 12 = 16; another Heavy Wound

(OOC - Would that be the middle guideline since he's just boosting the strength of the guideline instead of really changing the guideline or any Arts, etc.?)

About this time, Lilly presumably comes back with the jug of water. Esteban says to the old man, "I assure you, sirrah, I am not interested in your granddaughter! I would not dream of offending the honor of such a maid, nor of her family! Good day, sirrah!" and, muttering an apology to Lilly, he leaves the room.

Then, he goes outside to look for the battle. Presumably he sees smoke and fire in the distance.

Esteban bangs his sword on the rim of his buckler, crying, "Men of Andorra! Some kind of trouble approaches! Time to earn your supper! Make ready to defend the village of Las Salines! To arms! To arms!"

MuVi equal to level to boost one magnitude, equal to twice level to boost two magnitudes

Good cover, The old man winks
You shout of alert calls everyones attention to the smoke and flames. People are confused, some rush to hide. Others grab their pick-axes and hatchets and long-knives and etceteras. One old lady just standst there muttering "WTF?!?"

OOC: Esteban's shout of alarm was mainly directed at the grogs, who I hope are making a decent show of alacrity.

"Women and children, inside!" Esteban barks. He snaps off a quick Air of Ennobled Presence on himself, because it looks like he's gonna need it. Hopefully no one notices amid all the yelling and panicking. "Almogavers, to the front! Village men, stand by your homes!" Once the grogs are gathered, Esteban tries to estimate the distance to the battle. If it's more than about five minutes' march away, he'll deploy the men defensively to guard the approach to the village. If it's close, he'll lead them into the fray.

They are making an excellent show of alacrity
I got confused
Anyway, the battle is about a five minute quick march distant, give or take.

Esteban marches his men into battle, brandishing his sword and making a show of chivalrously defending the villagers.

marchmarchmarchmarch*
Despite your best efforts, some of the brave and the bold amongst the villiagers start following the band; brandishing axes and spears, and some guys even own swords.

Vibria will run to get there in 15 rounds, which I think is a minute and a half; her Aura of Fire lasts two minutes (Diameter). When she's almost there, she will stop and recast it before approaching el Gulio and the ogres.

That sounds like the LoM rules are screwy, because it makes no sense that a horse can only barely outrun a human (let alone a MAGIC horse!).

Vocis will 'port over (CT 21 + aura + roll 5 + 3 (CP) = 29 + aura) to his best guess at Carmen's location on the ground. His next course of action will depend on what she's doing when he finds her.

Gimme a roll for your "best guess"
Perception + Awareness
Then a Finesse Roll

Well, Esteban shrugs, I tried. This is going to be a memorable day for them.

Gardaitis' player has no books with him in Texas.
Marko, how long would it take him to get there in wolf form, or in bird form? (Shearwaters are not very fast flyers, but not very slow either.)

Bienvenido almost chokes on the ale he's thirstily drinking

Oh no, not now! I was barely beginning to sate my appetite!
Taking his mace in once hand, a ham in another, he rushes towards Esteban

:frowning:
Despite his disappointment, bienvenido manages to wrap the ham on his person, and bravely (if hungry) follows Esteban towards the battle.

Meanwhile, seeing Carmen fall from the sky, the Brute is far from happy.
With a savage RROOOOAR!!!, his muscles bulge, veins showing, and he grows, towering over the ogres (size +3), whereas he was previously of a similar size (+2).
1d10=8 + Angry 2 = 10
And he enters a Berserker rage! (+2 to attack and Soak, -2 to Defense)
The ogres are gonna suffer for what they did to Carmen :imp:

BRUTE IS STRONGEST THERE IS!!! PUNY OGRES!!!!

I will catch up after work tonight...

(and to think I didn't dare do it... :loll )

Carmen's Talisman is enchanted with an effect, Descent of the Feathery Body, that has an Environmental Trigger to take effect whenever Concentration on her flight spell fails.
But that's not what happened.
As far as she can tell, the Hag cast some sort of anti-magic or counterspell at her that dispelled Wings of Soaring Wind. The failsafe was never triggered. She will need to add some newly designed effects. So instead, she will try to Fast Cast something.
Fast Cast Speed: 1d10=8, Quick +1, Finesse 3, = 12. I presume that is sufficient.
She then fast casts Wizard's Leap: 1d10=1, then 1d10=2.
:imp:
Stamina +0, Rego 9, Corpus 7, Mastery 2, Fast Cast Penalty -10, = 12
Spending a Fatigue, the spell is successful.
As I mentioned earlier, Maurice had detatched from the goblin fight and flew over by the ogres. That seems like a good place to land, so with a Finesse roll: 1d10=7, Perception +1, Finesse 3, Precice Mastery +1, = 12.

Vocis had teleported to where he thought he saw Carmen falling. But upon arrival, she is nowhere to be found. Vulcanus comes riding up quickly thereafter, and they both hear th sound of great wings beating. Looking up, they see Maurice with Caren mounted sidesaddle (legs crossed, bombshell pose). He lands and she hops off. Hands on her hips, she smiles. Hello boys .
Alexandro comes running up, in a panic at first but relaxing as he approaches and sees his sister is safe. He even starts laughing. Everyone else soon follows along. Estaban and the grogs arrive. The villagers following them stayed behind at the barricade to stand guard and kick around the occasional goblin straggler.

Meanwhile...

In a Berzerk rage, the Brute finishes crippling the vanguard of the elite ogres and shatters the cohesion of their group. He easlilly plows through the others and the lesser ogres start to panic. Big ogre Boss tries to rally morale: 1d10=6, Pre +0, Leadership 5 (in combat), = 12.
He succeeds!
He has the other ogres form a circle surrounding himself and the Brute. The can see the magi & others off to the side, but they make no move. BoB faces off against the Brute, who glares back in seething rage.
Bring it!

Fixer, I now have the accurate and updated states for the Brute. Use those. And I stand corrected, he does have claws. And horns. And has several levels of Bad @$$ beyond Berzerk that are yet untapped. But BoB is an intelligent ogre, and may have a trick or two up his sleeve.
Let's see what happens...
