Anulus Connectens: Andreva of Jerbiton

Two seasons to enchant the familiar Bond with this to help her get around in general and while dragon hunting in particular.

I adapted the Rego Corpus guideline for moving a target 5 paces. I think it was justified, but you're welcome to convince me otherwise.

As a result of this enchantment Grace begins to think that well appointed caverns aren't as wretched as all that and Andreva develops an aversion to scrambling up cliffsides and trees (she coudl fall you know).

Now that she has the necessary transpiration to allow her to catch the dragons she'll further augment her dragon hunting tools with two more spells.

She spends one season learning Janus' Major Ward Against Heat and Flames It's ReIg 35

She spends one season to learn Sense the Feet that Tread the Earth InTe 30 from the core book to help locate her quarry or run from them

She also makes good on her agreement to learn Wizard's Day of Communion MuVi 25 which I think came from Janus as well.

These three spells were learned without need of Grace's assistance.

This is all I intend on doing to specifically in response to the dragon. I think the best plan for the covenant is to arcane tunnel it with the communion spells and bust through its penetration.

Janus has made some devices, both charged ones to use by Grogs, plus a heavy-duty one to deal with the dragon (although with 7 year expiry, so there is time pressure), and also some spells to help with both protecting against the dragons as well as to accelerate production of resources. More about this soon, when Janus +45 years is published, in his own thread of course.
But I just thought I'd make a note about Janus building stuff to be used by others to help in dealing with the part of the situation concerning the dragon. The Hermetic politics and problems he has also spent time dealing with.

Andreva creates an invested device the Prospecting Fish it is a simple knife somewhat larger than a hand in size. Avdreva included a removable piece in the pommel in hopes that she could have it fixed as a permanent arcane connection to the knife but as of yet (year 45) she has never removed it from the knife and it is not fixed (although it is still an AC to the Prospecting Fish)

One season to open a knife for enchantment a small item of base metal has a capacity of 10 pawns

One season to invest this:

One season for this

one season for this:

These enchantments fill 8 of the knife's 10 pawns of capacity. This takes two seasons of Grace's effort as well.

Andreva with all of the Dragon business would like a way for her to get her armor on and Grace's Armor on immediately.

The following spell would do the trick if her armor were near at hand. Because of casting requisites a level 10 target individual version is not easy for her to spont. Andreva easily creates a level 20 version in a single season allowing her to armor both herself and her familiar in a single turn (and very likely any unarmored grogs).

Of course there are many times that Andreva won't be carrying a set of armor or some other item that she desires. She develops the following two spells to help resolve this issue.

Two seasons for this

I used the guideline from rego corpus unchanged. I think that Terram should be as good at teleportation as Corpus.

One season to learn A level 40 version of The Minute of Reckoning (a duration diameter opening the intangible Tunnel- Hermetic Projects, p.80) from lab notes.

To be clear, the plan is that Andreva carries arcane connections to one or more large chests with her (The chests must be stored outside of the Aegis for this to work). She then opens an arcane tunnel to a chest and uses Packing for a Journey to bring the chest to her. Then she can send it back using an arcane connection to its location or a chest stored nearby.

Obviously the chest plan has much more utility than just shuffling armor back and forth.

Have these spells already been done in a published source?

Edit: Magi of Hermes page 92 shows me that this spell is base 25 not base 35.

That's sixteen seasons of lab work. Andreva has 4 seasons left for the 31-45 interval.

She's going to resolve the issue of inhabiting caves below the water table

I used the level 4 guideline control natural movement of a liquid rather than the level 5 guideline for ward against water. this spell takes one season of grace's time. Andreva would have liked to have had a size adjustment on the spell but she couldn't have gotten it done in two seasons of she would have gone for level 35.

This also takes a season of Grace's time.

Almost done with the 31-45 year period

Grace is free for an additional two years and one season that have not yet been accounted for. I'll give her another 50 xp

30 xp for Brawl to 6 (because dragons are scary)
10 xp for Artes liberales to 2 (because she's enjoying no longer thinking like a horse)
5 xp for Magic Lore 1 (dragons again)
5 xp for Organization lore Order of Hermes 1

Andreva's aging rolls
3 rolls at +5 age -2 living condition -1 lab health score (of 2) - 11 for ritual -2 for bronze cord = -11
10 rolls at +6 age -2 living condition -1 lab health score (of 2) - 11 for ritual -2 for bronze cord = -10
2 rolls at +7 age -2 living condition -1 lab health score (of 2) - 11 for ritual -2 for bronze cord = -9
I rolled these and she received one year of apparent age.

I would either require magnitudes for complexity, or a (fairly easy) Finesse roll. Not sure which one though.

I went back and added a magnitude for complexity. Fortunately Andreva's Rego Terram was strong enough to allow this with no other changes.

Here are the characters for year 45:

I reduced the shy personality trait
I increased the brave trait
Is an increased confidence score appropriate? I did not give her one yet.

For reputations I gave her one for being a sculptor among house Jerbiton. She has been doing lots of sculpting.
I gave her a reputation for being a dragon slayer among the mundanes near the covenant
I gave her a reputation among the Verditious for having a thieved one of their ordeals.

In terms of modifications to the covenant that have not yet been stated:
she has done lots of stone carving where things were not up to her tastes.
She has created a ceremonial magic space with props sufficiently large and intricate to merit a +5 bonus
She as crafted an underground tunnel that leads outside of the range of the aegis. At the end of the tunnel there is a chamber where she can keep chests for use with packing for a journey. A short section of the tunnel dips below the water table

I assumed [strike]three[/strike] six castings of the intelligence booster ritual and 2 uses of the communication booster for Grace

That looks good.

I haven't paid any attention to Confidence, nor Reputations. But I think at least Reputation seems appropriate to spend a few thoughts on. Alterations to Personality Traits does seem plausible as well. I shall have to think a bit about this for Janus.

Here is what I am thinking for her priorities in years 46-60;
Andreva has to do something about the demons. My plans were an item that detected strong emotions such as a lantern that had seven lights one for each of the deadly sins and cast a target room InMe effect hat caused each of the lights to glow in accordance to the strength of that emotion being felt within the room.

My other thoughts on demons were to perhaps develop a ward against demons and have her create a talisman then use the bonuses inherent in a talisman to perhaps enchant a low level eternal oblivion effect with some penetration despite her perdo deficiency. Upon reflection I believe that some of the other characters have a demon ward that Andreva could learn from notes and that making a demon's eternal oblivion item was not going to be worth it. Instead of trying to do something with her worst technique she'll leverage her best technique and develop a rego mentem spell that forces insubstantial spirits to materialize if it is possible for them to do so. If the demons become physical she can use all of her sword spells to contain them until someone else can eternal oblivion them.

In regards to her hopes of comfortable underground areas she's going to develop spells for providing heat light and air. She'll also get a better digging spell and some magic to do a better job of turning the rocks that she digs out into high quality structures.

On the sword front I've got just one spell planned.

Also She's considering a talisman and an additional enchantment or four in her familiar bond. I'll see what she can squeeze in.

Here are 300 xp from 10 years of study
rego to 14 for 27
mentem to 10 for 10
animal to 10 for 19
herbam to 8 for 36
auram to 5 for 15
Magic theory to 8 for 40
leadership 2 for 15
Infernal lore 1 for 5
Divine lore 1 for 5
Finesse to 10(1) for 33
folk ken 1 for 5
etiquette to 3 for 15
4 spell masteries to 2 for 20
the final 55 xp spent in terram netting 83 xp bringing her to Terram 26 +3 (18)

It was absurd of her not to have increased any of her spell masteries prior to this but she really had lots of other stuff to work on. She still needs to shore up perdo, and imaginem prior to taking an apprentice. She'll do that in the next (61-75) period.

I'm having her skip on parma, concentration, and penetration this time round. Her parma is solid at 6 but the other 2 could use some work. She could use some time she doesn't have on intellego as well and, for the third period in a row, she's not pursuing her love of fencing.

Here are 250 xp for Grace

Awareness raised to 5 for 25
Brawl up to 7 for 35
magic theory to 9 for 120
magic lore raised to 2 for 10
organization lore Order of Hermes raised to 2 for 10
Infernal lore 2 for 15
faerie lore 2 for 15
concentration raised to 3 for 15
divine lore 1 for 5

I like this idea, a lot.

Ditto. That's very creative. I also like Andreva using Rego to force demons to materialize in order to use physical force. Since Wards work both ways perhaps these can be used to trap and contain the demon?

Then I'll do that one first
sense all emotions in a being is level 10, +1 touch, +2 room, +2 sun so level 35 and constant effect makes it 39

Andreva's intellego mentem lab total is intlego 6 mentem 10 magic theory 8 intelligence 3 aura 3 lab general quality 2 Grace's intelligence and magic theory 13 total of 45 before shape and material bonuses

Shape and material bonuses: there's walnut +3 to minds which is clearly applicable. Other than that the list of shape and material bonuses isn't too helpful, Myrrh give a bonus to sanctify of +2, Gold has a + 4 bonus for peace, mirrors have a +5 bonus for seeing the truth.

I'm going to say that the mirror bonus applies to this item. so her lab total is 53 so one season to open a device and if she doesn't do constant effect she can do it in two additional seasons. I hate three season projects

So can she make a device that she can switch so as to measure the relative intensity of any seven emotions she chooses on the fly or do they need to be set at the time of creation. I lean towards her being able to switch it up. The guideline is "sense all of the emotions in a being".

I'll do that one next. Turns out that one is also tough for her. Andreva weeps at the lost lab time that she otherwise could have spent pursuing her passions. The dragons were much more pleasant for her, she was going to develop those spells anyway.

Silver has +2 Intellego in TMRE. If your mirrors are silver backed...

That would have been helpful. I'll go back and re-edit the device, but by using the mirrors and the walnut I already got to +8 which maxed out Andreva's shape and material bonuses.

What guideline is used for that? And what Penetration are we talking about?
Because maybe Janus might want to look at this, what with his fairly good Rego and somewhat specialized lab

My guess would be
ReVi 5: Command a demon to do the caster's will, RoP: I, box, p. 121
