General Table Talk

I also have the Book Learner Virtue, but I am a Poor Student. Curse of the Autodidact.
And my English score is 6

Took a few days off and got all hazed for my birthday and sh... stuff. But I am back now

...And you thought Carmen knew how to throw a temper tantrum

Just a note, I believe that all happened before Carmen returned with Vulcanus.

Ah, I see. I got confused on the timing. I edited that line slightly so it makes sense chronologically now. Thanks.

The wiki is growing again, as I've added pages for several magi, and plan to do the rest.
andorra.wikidot.com/magi

When applicable, I'm doing a biography page, a charsheet page, and several as needed.
Check for exemple, vocis

Speaking of which, we gotta clear out some inactive magi. I have not heard from Solomon of urnicus in ages, and people keep knocking at my door. cunningrat kind of just showed up mysteriously out of nowhere, which is cool and all and active players are vital to the life of any game. But we gotta keep control over that.
Unless you guys want to start a second covenant in Iberia as part of the greater story.
The reason I had that idea is that I have this one guy that Fixer knows (but I have no idea who he is) named Makrion. He has a character concept for an Islamic magus. Cool idea, but I do not think he would culturally fit in. But I had long ago mentioned the idea (Carmen mentioned it to Vibria) of starting a Chapter House in Valencia.
I decided to take Inigo and Kesara out as they were just a temporary patch, so they are on a quest in (some mysterious place).

And Fixer, I have a question. On the wiki, one of the first magi listed is someone I have never heard of. Who is that? Was he a proposed character that never made it into the game?
And whatever happened to Marcellus Glacius?

He must be out hunting aurochs somewhere or wrestling with drakes somewhere. Or maybe Glacius personality took over for a while and he is already terrorizing a village or two in Navarra before returning home. Maybe he just went to visit the giants of scandinavia to find clues on his expected future. This is something that worries him, so is not a minor detail.

Wow, that was quite a mouthful from Carmen... 3 posts of it. It took me a moment to realize that.

Hmmm... So what does our active/inactive count look like? Locations might be useful, too. Perhaps we should make a little list here, and including NPCs might not hurt. Something like:

On the Drake Hunt
Carmen - Marko Markoko - active
Esteban - Andrew Gronosky - active
Gardaitis - cunningrat1 - active
Guillaume - callen - active
Maurice - NPC (drake)
Simon - NPC (drake)
Venkath - NPC (drake)
Vibria - Peregrine_Bjornaer - active
Vocis - fightmaster - active
Vulcanus - Ryu - active

At the Covenant
Arachné - The Fixer - active
Bernhard - fightmaster - active
Micaela - callen - active

Looks right to me, though if you're counting the non-Gifted, Bernhard is at the covenant.

I forgot to reply to this part. One thing I think Ars Magica sets up well via its troupe-style ideas is being able to do politics with and against other covenants which include players. I've been working on ways of going about this myself, figuring that running things online is rather idea for such a scenario as it requires many players and lots of simultaneous activity. I think starting a chapter house could be really cool. It does bring up some questions, though. Would that mean recruiting a bunch more players so there is no overlap? Or should some players play characters in both covenants? Or would some of the magi here move to the new covenant? Or some combination of those? Also, do you already have something in mind for the "greater story" as well as for some lesser stories?

Hello everyone!

I'm the guy that sent Marko a whisper and that Fixer (vaguely) knew - I'd asked him for some advice before and we talked for a bit.

I'm interested in joining another saga, obviously, and I enjoy inter-character interaction probably more than defeating "monsters", so the idea of another covenant would work for me. Mind, that I'd be much less interested if the covenants are supposed to be at war with eachother. Although my plan was for an Islamic magus, it was not to be antagonistic but to create some nice story hooks. I enjoy the occasional anti-hero but never adverserials.

Kind regards,

Makarion

Hi.

I think that's what Mark had in mind when he mentioned a chapter house. I don't think he's looking for anything adversarial. As for my comment, I mentioned "politics with and against," specifically including the "with" for this type of scenario.

I'm with Callen on this - a chapterhouse sounds like a great idea, especially if we keep adding players. My only concern is that the home covenant is basically starting from scratch, so I'm not sure how we could immediately manage a chapterhouse while rebuilding at home.

Welcome!

It sounds like the covenants would be 'sisters', so to speak, so I wouldn't think antagonism would be an issue. At least not for a few years.

Friend or foe, I'll probably creep people out, anyway  . I think the last time I played a Criamon was in the mid-90s, and I feel like it's high time I dust off that particular cabinet.

If we do end up with a sister covenant, would you guys terribly mind if we limit the time post gauntlet a little? I'm a little daunted by progressing decades - I'm hardly used to high powered AM and I'd hate to have to lean on the team all the time. Something like 7 years max (1 cycle) sounds pretty good to me.

They could be a young ambitious new covenant that has recently formed on its own volition, allying itself with Andorra to help their own status... Perhaps the rival Tribunal borders are an issue for them, and setting up as a vassal to an existing covenant aids their independence. Andorra would go for it because maybe having a vassal makes us appear less old and broken to our rivals?

"How do you write women so well?"

"I think of a man, and I take away reason, and accountability."

What would be ideal is a second SG that manages that covenant, I shall not interfere much. No need to recruit, as people keep applying. And as a chapter house, it is technically an extension of Andorra. The ideal site I would choose is Valencia. However, I have also thought about a Barcelona saga, which would be it's own story set in the same universe (ArM5.4f#, is the designation I have given my game universe for ArM). No need to recruit as people keep knocking at my door, and we have a healthy number as is. We can set up a Mecrere Portal and characters can relocate back and forth as they will.

Just an idea. Nothing will happen overnight

Sounds acceptable. Fixer had poroposed a hi/low division of stories to me recently, and I think it is a good idea. All power levels mix to be social and yaddayadda, as is realistic. But actual adventures and challenges should be aimed at specific power levels, and it is easier if we group like with like (alpha team, beta team, etceteras)
