Tullio was born in a little village close to Syracuse on the island of Sicily. His mother died giving birth to him. Just a couple of years thereafter his father died by an accident. His father was a fisherman and was lost to the sea during a major autumn storm. Ever since then Tullio was afraid of even the slightest lightning even if with the time he learned to hide it.
Being left on his own at the early age of three he joined a group of orphans that found a protégé in the harbormaster’s wife. He learned how to survive quickly - he learned to hide, to fight, to run and to lie, but most importantly when to do what. He was always aware of his surroundings, what people did, what people said - he even picked up some Arab and Greek.

Shortly after his 13th birthday a strange traveler showed up in the tavern Tullio was helping out at in exchange for meat and ale. As he couldn't quite say what it was Tullio got curious enough to follow him - confident that nobody would take notice of a young boy that blends so well with harbor and town. The stranger met with a young woman. They talked to each other in what had to be Latin - at least they sounded like the priests do. Together they walked until they reached one of the bigger trade ships. Now the stranger addressed Tullio: “Boy, you can come out of the shadow!” The woman had apparently not noticed him, she immediately draw a short sword. Both continued in Latin until the woman sheathed her sword and turned with a grim look at Tullio. This was the very start of the rivalry between Tullio and Okeania, his parens other apprentice.

Kronos invited him to be his apprentice, which Tullio accepted without quite knowing what he was involved with. His apprenticeship started with the long journey to the tribunals of Thebes and Levante for which they had come to Syracuse.
He learned the essentials of integrating with all kinds of social contexts.
He learned reading and manipulating people.
He learned how to fight and how to avoid physical conflict.
Back home in Kronos’ covenant he opened Tullio’s forms and started teaching him hermetic magic. With that the hard time began. Kronos demanded strict obedience and Tullio strived to circumvent it. It was an exhausting game that repeated itself day after day. But there were good parts as well: Kronos, Okeania and Tullio traveled a lot and wherever they went they brought conflict and helped people grow:
A second son that needed just a little push to rise out of the shadow of his inferior but older brother.
A covenant stuck in search of consensus needed only a small push to close the case where they could not agree - not much to the taste of the leader.

Okeania and Tullio dueled - sometimes literally - for the attention of Kronos. Both had there wins but Tullio was clearly behind - as he always was the less trained and experienced one - with one exception, Okeania was never successful in tracking down Tullio when it came to blending with the social context. In the later years of apprenticeship even Kronos had his problems discovering his disguise and finding Tullio when he didn't want to be found.

When Kronos requested Tullio to disband the group of orphans that helped him survive the early days of his life and putting the harbor master out of office it was enough. There was no way out, the only way to stay loyal to himself and the friends of his youth was direct disobedience. Tullio brought Okeania’s plot targeting the harbor master to an end and organized funding for an orphanage that was put into the hands of the harbor master's wife.
Kronos accepted his filius gauntlet and gave Tullio the hermetic name Prometheus.

Beloved Rivals
Okeania and myself… That was love on first hate. She was really upset that I was able to follow her and Kronos without her noticing anything - but she was impressed at the same time. Immediately following our first encounter Kronos kept us both at bay. He had some schemes and plots to play during our travel and didn’t want any greenhorns to ruin everything. We had a chance to get to like each other before our strong wills and the struggle to satisfy Kronos had us going at each other's throats more often than not. We were both good at people, though we had quite different means and approaches. She was clearly the charming and persuasive one, I was more into figuring out motives and subtly guiding people into wanting “the right thing” themselves. I would sabotage any of her plots I can get aware of - and I am looking out for her - but don’t you dare… that is my pleasure and duty and of no concern of yours. She moved out when I had still some years of apprenticeship and now I heard rumors she is in Thebes. I am on my way...

Reserved for extra

Ok, lets see

Gentle Gift, Subtle magic, Quite magic x2 I am fine with these. Persona is ok, will need a detailed description of each persona, do not forget the Reputation thing about each one, we will track it. I definitely agree you will need more Sta to pull this off. Social contacts: townfolk is a bit too broad for me. Keep it nobility or some other social caste (avoid criminal or underground, we already have one of those). Please flesh out Okeania a bit more, as Beloved Rival I am going to place her in Thebes Tribunal too. Disjointed magic is far less a bother than Creative Block imho. If you take Dependent you will have to drop Beloved Rival, both are story flaws. Also expect me to milk the Major flaw for all its worth. I'd keep Def Creo and have someone else do my longevities.
For stats, definitely more Sta, maybe more Int too. Maybe improved characteristics?
Native Language should be Siculo (-1 from Italian, -2 Veneto). Anastaj teaches either Classical Greek or Romaic Greek 1, or 5 xps. You can add those 5 xps on top of what you got (or get a 5 xp refund), just note if its classical or romaic. Also with Artes 1, you wont know how to write in greek, different alphabet.
On Apprenticeship I count 140 and 90 points for a total of 230, you missing 10 points? And spells are 122 I think. Spell choices are ok, but no defensive or offensive spells make his survival questionable, especially for Tytalus. Get at least one of each if you can, it will make your character's life easier.

So far so good, work on it.

How will that go, btw.? Personas are probably as 'local' as deep cover disguises? In that case I suppose one will be something in Sicily and a recently created one in the Despotat, not sure yet who exactly it will be... Will a Persona fade away if not present for a long time? Or is Persona completely different from deep cover disguise?

Ok. Will look for Sta and keep the contacts.

Looking forward to meet her regularly. What do you need from me? Some more prose about her and our relationship or stats?

I suppose I'll go for Disjointed magic then, keep the Creo problem and figure out how to get improved statistics (or at least better Sta). If I had to drop either Gossip or Social contacts, which one would you recommend? Don't see me handling less xp (skilled parens)...

Values in parentheses mean Siculo 5 counts as Italian 4 and Veneto 3?
I was referring to

but I will take the 5xp as well if that is it.

Will consider this.

Will count again and correct.

Considered Wizard's Sidestep for defense, but you are definitely correct about offense. Will reconsider, although giving up spells won't be easy...
What would you go for?

[tab][/tab] From what I gather Personas are like magically enforced split personalities, complete with outward disguises, but under the control of the character. They do not just fade away with unuse. Make any two you can use, regardless of locality.

[tab][/tab] I need more fluff for Okeania, not stats (those I'll do myself). Especially what she does in your rivalry and how she makes your character's life miserable.

[tab][/tab] I would drop social contacts. Your character is not that well traveled for them.

[tab][/tab] Yes, Siculo 5 means its treated as Italian 4 and Veneto 3 in conversations.

[tab][/tab] I assumed you took Classical Greek (hence 5 xp). If you took Romaic its 15 extra (living language 2), my bad.

[tab][/tab] Can't help with spells, no idea what your character will try doing

Ok, so it really is like a disguise - so full of details, personality and appearance - that it's not going to fail... Is that compatible with making up local deep-cover disguises? E.g. a deep cover disguise as a local guard might well have the authority to send people away based on that reputation. I would expect I can't have a reputation as local guard everywhere I go...?

I thought so. I'll write something down.

It's a pity that being able to cast in company is so expensive that there is not enough left for getting into company in the first place...
My back story should have hooks for traveled and contacts, but you are probably right that betters characteristics should come first...

Speaking the local language is important if Prometheus want to operate in the local society, hence the living language. Unfortunately it is far from enough to cover as a local yet. Would be worse though with classical greek.

I got started at the end of the history post.

[tab][/tab] Is this one ready yet?

No, Prometheus is not ready yet, unfortunately. See work in progress section for my current thoughts. And the Personas are also still missing... Sorry.

What would be a good time line for having him (or actually both) ready?

[tab][/tab] I will officially enter them next year, that is when the four adventures are done. However there some stuff I want to do to/with them before  No rush

I only expect to finalize the Personas for Prometheus.

Nicholas should be done. I am still thinking about switching the scores of hunt and bow, but if I am too late with that choice I would be ok either. I have copied him over to final already anyway...

(ST EDIT) Ok will go voer him again tomorrow and transcribe him

Transcribe?

As a general note, there are no notifications (or I don't know how to enable them) for "ST EDIT" kind of comments...

I am still not done with the Personae, but anyhow put up Prometheus as a "final" version...

I took the minor/major personality flaw as +3/+6 personality traits. Is that right or what are the expected ranges?

Hi eldarin! For my characters I did just that, Humble +3 for Scylax, and Rebellious +6 for Maia (although I just realized that she should also have Nocturnal +3, seems like a weird Personality trait)

Ah, then I should take that as well...

Ok, let's see how to figure out that language hassle...
I hope this doesn't count as cheating, but only XP optimization.

  • decrease Romaic Greek from later life (+10xp)
  • move Intrigue and Leadership from Apprenticeship to later life (-10xp later life, +10xp apprenticeship)
  • increase artes liberalis (-10xp)
  • remove Area Lore: Epirus (+5xp)
  • add classical greek (-5xp)
  • add seasons practicing after apprenticeship
    [list]
  • Romaic Greek Q8 x 2 = 16
  • Romaic Greek (5) & Area Lore: Epirus (15) Q7 x 3 = 21

[/list:u]

The general problem I have is that long term I'll want classical greek, but even with a high score I would sound strange for a local (similar to substituting romaic for classical would sound strange in hermetic context). Hence I do need both, romaic and classical greek, correct?

The above changes should give me romaic greek 4,classical greek 1 and artes liberalis 2, so in principle I am prepared for speaking, reading and writing.

Maybe add another 3 seasons to get to Romaic Greek 5, that is when Prometheus starts to sound like a native speaker, right?

Spending all those seasons on practicing language and area lore, is there anything else I can do without sacrificing learning progress?

I would probably spend a lot of time (not enough for warping) as Benessa and Serafino and the rest with mundane disguises. Ah, if this is the right answer no need for mundane disguise because of risk of warping.
